Manx ( or , pronounced or ), also known as Manx Gaelic, is a Gaelic language of the insular Celtic branch of the Celtic language family, itself a branch of the Indo-European language family. Manx is the historical language of the Manx people. Although only few children native to the Isle of Man speak Manx as a first language, there has been a steady increase in the number of speakers since the death of Ned Maddrell in 1974. He was considered to be the last speaker to grow up in a Manx-speaking community environment. Despite this, the language has never fallen completely out of use, with a minority having some knowledge of it as a heritage language, and it is still an important part of the island's culture and cultural heritage. Benjamin Crellin is a New Zealand comedian, actor and writer. Comedy He began his comedy career at 18 years old after attending the National Youth Drama School in the Hawkes Bay, he had originally signed up for an improv class but ended up attending a stand up class instead. Bertram Harry Crellin (27 May 1902 – 15 April 1993) was an Australian rules football Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an oval field, often a modified cricket ground. Points are scored by k ...er who played with Footscray in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Crellin was a mainstay at the Williamstown Football Club for much of the 1920s. From 1922 to 1929 he filled roles in the backline for Williamstown and was often a standout player. Like many men of the time, the great depression of 1929 saw Crellin seek employment in a regional area. William Francis Crellin (born 30 June 2000) is an English professional footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for Everton. Club career Born in Blackpool, Crellin moved on loan from Fleetwood Town to FC United of Manchester in August 2018, but was recalled early in September 2018. In July 2019 he was the subject of a failed transfer bid from Premier League club Everton. He moved on loan to Chorley in August 2019. He signed on loan for Bolton Wanderers in August 2020. His debut came on 5 September in Bolton's first match of the season, a 1–2 home defeat against Bradford in the first round of the EFL Cup. David Crellin (born 1961) is an English actor. Jeffrey Crellin
Jeffrey Crellin is an Australian oboist, who was principal of the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra (MSO) from 1977 to 2021. He was also the founder and Artistic Director of Australia Pro Arte from 1990 to 2006, a Melbourne-based chamber orchestra that later changed its name to the Melbourne Chamber Orchestra. Crellin is also a faculty member at the Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM). Jeffrey Crellin was born in Brisbane, Queensland, and first studied the oboe with Frank Lockwood at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music (also piano with Max Olding), and then with Jiří Tancibudek at Adelaide University. In 1973 he was the overall winner of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, ABC Instrumental and Vocal Competitions, after which he travelled to Europe to study, most significantly with Heinz Holliger in Germany for two years on a Churchill Fellowship. John Crellin
John Frissell Crellin MC JP CP was a prominent Member of the House of Keys in the Isle of Man. He was born in Douglas in 1889, the son of J F Crellin MHK JP CP. He was educated at King William's College and served in the First World War in France and was wounded in 1916, awarded the Military Cross with bar in 1918. He was appointed Captain of the Parish of Andreas in 1918 and elected to the House of Keys as a Member for Ayre at the 1924 General Election. Then in 1929 he swapped to Michael, the constituency for which his father and his grandfather sat.
