Creed (film)
''Creed'' is a 2015 American sports drama film directed by Ryan Coogler from a screenplay by Coogler, Aaron Covington and contributions by Sylvester Stallone. It is the sequel to ''Rocky Balboa'' (2006), the seventh installment and spin-off of the ''Rocky'' franchise, and stars Michael B. Jordan, Stallone, Tessa Thompson, Phylicia Rashad, Tony Bellew, and Graham McTavish. In the film, amateur boxer Adonis Creed (Jordan) is trained and mentored by Rocky Balboa (Stallone), the former rival turned friend of Adonis' father, Apollo Creed. Although ''Rocky Balboa'' was considered the end of the franchise, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer hired Coogler in 2013 to develop a ''Rocky'' spin-off. Ryan Coogler
Ryan Kyle Coogler (born May 23, 1986) is an American film director, producer and screenwriter. He is a recipient of four NAACP Image Awards, four Black Reel Awards, a Golden Globe Award nomination and an Academy Award nomination for Best Picture. He made his feature-length debut with the independent film ''Fruitvale Station'' (2013), which won the Grand Jury Prize and the Audience Award for U.S. dramatic film at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival. It also won at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival, for Best First Film. He has since co-written and directed films such as the ''Rocky'' series spinoff, ''Creed'' (2015), and the Marvel film ''Black Panther'' (2018), the latter of which broke numerous box office records and became the highest-grossing film of all time by an African American director. Rocky Balboa
Robert "Rocky" Balboa (also known by his ring name The Italian Stallion), is a fictional title character and the protagonist of the ''Rocky'' film series. The character was created by Sylvester Stallone, who has also portrayed him in all eight films in the franchise. He is depicted as a working class or poor Italian-American from the slums of Philadelphia who started out as a club fighter and "enforcer" for a local Philly Mafia loan shark. Adonis "Donnie" Creed (born Adonis Johnson) is a fictional character from the follow-ups to the ''Rocky'' film series: ''Creed'' (2015), ''Creed II'' (2018), and the upcoming ''Creed III'' (2023).
