County Route
A county highway (also county road or county route; usually abbreviated CH or CR) is a road in the United States and in the Canadian province of Ontario that is designated and/or maintained by the county highway department. Route numbering can be determined by each county alone, by mutual agreement among counties, or by a statewide pattern. Any county-maintained road, whether or not it is given a signed number, can be called a county road. Depending on the state or province and county, these roads can be named after geographic features, communities, or people. Or they may be assigned a name determined by a standardized grid reference: "East 2000" would be a north–south road running 20 blocks/miles/km east of the designated zero point. Schroeppel is a town in Oswego County, New York, United States. The population was 8,501 at the 2010 census. The name derives from the Schroeppel family, early land owners of the area. Schroeppel is located in the southeast part of the county. History The town of Schroeppel was formed in 1832 from the town of Volney. The Schroeppel House was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982. Geography The southwestern town line, marked by the Oneida River, is the border of Onondaga County. The southwestern town boundary is partly formed by the Oswego River. The Erie Canal is on the southern border of the town. New York State Route 264 (NY 264) is a north–south state highway located within Oswego County, New York, in the United States. It runs for from an intersection with County Route 57 (CR 57, formerly NY 57) in the village of Phoenix to a junction with NY 3 in the town of Palermo. The southernmost portion of NY 264 serves as a connector between Phoenix and NY 481, which bypasses the village to the northeast. When NY 264 was assigned in the early 1930s, it originally served the hamlet of Pennellville, located midway between Phoenix and Palermo. Hastings, New York
Hastings is a town in Oswego County, New York, United States. Its population was 9,450 at the 2010 census. It is named after Hastings Curtiss, a prominent citizen and member of the State Assembly in 1824. It is on the county's southern border. U.S. Route 11 and Interstate 81 pass through it. History Hastings was the first town settled in Oswego County when Oliver Stevens built a rude house near the abandoned Fort Brewerton in 1789. Stevens used the location to trade with Indians and to provide a tavern-like establishment for the boatmen who frequented the nearby river and lake. The region was originally called "Breda." The town was formed in 1825 from Constantia. The early industry was lumbering and manufacturing of wooden products. The Carley's Mills Schoolhouse was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2005.
