Dwight Conroy Farrell (born August 25, 1973), better known by his stage name Count Bass D, is an American rapper, record producer and multi-instrumentalist who resides in Millheim, Pennsylvania. His production style is characterised by layers of short MPC samples and film snippets complemented with live instrumentation, and eccentric lyrics laid atop. Early life and education Farrell was born on August 25, 1973, and was raised in The Bronx and Canton, Ohio. At the age of four, his father, a West Indian minister, encouraged him to play music at his church. Farrell thereafter learned to play the piano, organ, drums, and bass. He then started gaining interest in hip-hop, becoming better at rhyming while rapping with friends. In his late teens, Farrell enrolled at Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro, taking advantage of equipment and facilities in the School of Music to finish his demo tape. Michael Boyer II, better known by his stage names Knowdaverbs and later Verbs, is a Christian hip hop artist. He has recorded for Gotee Records. Background He started rapping at the age of twelve, and spent time dancing with GRITS during the mid-'90s. At first he did not gain much acceptance for singing hip-hop in nearby churches which laughed at him exclaiming "hip-hop's a pit of hell". His debut album, ''The Syllabus'' (1999), and his second album, ''The Action Figure'' (2000) were both fairly successful for gospel rap. Edan Portnoy (born 1978), better known as Edan, is an American hip hop artist from Rockville, Maryland. Early life Born to middle-class parents who immigrated from Israel, Portnoy grew up in Rockville, Maryland. He is Jewish. In high school, he bought his first turntables and started mixing beats. Inspired by his classmate's rhymes, he started writing his own songs. After graduation, he entered Berklee College of Music, where he spent two and a half years. ''Dwight Spitz'' is the third album by the American hip hop artist and multi-instrumentalist Count Bass D, released in 2002. Overview After the release of ''Pre-Life Crisis'', Count Bass D felt he had overshot his own talent. In 2002, he decided to make a more hip hop-themed album, so he bought an Akai S-3000 sampler and an MPC-2000 drum machine and quickly learned to create beats using samples. ''Dwight Spitz'' is his first album with a more traditional hip hop theme. The album has collaborations with Edan, J. Rawls, Dione Farris and MF DOOM. A deluxe edition was released on Count Bass D's Bandcamp on August 25, 2013, to celebrate the album's ten year anniversary. The edition included six new bonus tracks. Critical reception ''The A.V. A sampler is an electronic or digital musical instrument which uses sound recordings (or " samples") of real instrument sounds (e.g., a piano, violin, trumpet, or other synthesizer), excerpts from recorded songs (e.g., a five-second bass guitar riff from a funk song) or found sounds (e.g., sirens and ocean waves). The samples are loaded or recorded by the user or by a manufacturer. These sounds are then played back by means of the sampler program itself, a MIDI keyboard, sequencer or another triggering device (e.g., electronic drums) to perform or compose music. Because these samples are usually stored in digital memory, the information can be quickly accessed. The Akai S3000XL is a sampler with 32 polyphonic voices, and 2 MB of built-in RAM. For adding sounds to the sampler, the S3000XL features a 3.5" floppy drive that reads Akai-formatted floppies, and a SCSI port which allows for connection to an external storage device (such as a zip drive or external hard disk), a CD reader, or a computer for editing samples via the MESA editor. The device can also play back MIDI files, which is useful during live performances, as the Akai can take the role of the computer to trigger internal samples or external MIDI devices. The built-in 2 MB of RAM can be upgraded up to 32 using 2 16 MB SIMMs that Akai provided; other upgrades include cards such as the EB-16 effects board and the IB-304f filter board. Spongebath Records was an independent record label based in Murfreesboro, Tennessee during the mid-nineties. During its heyday, Spongebath was often viewed as the vibrant center of Murfreesboro/Nashville's (and the Southeast's) music scene with a robust artist roster of critically acclaimed bands, singers, and songwriters. Because of the album's progressive styles, it was difficult to market and it soon went out of print. It has, however, received a cult following among underground hip-hop fans.
