Cottesmore AFC (formerly known as Cottesmore Amateurs FC) is a football club based in Cottesmore, Rutland, England. They are currently members of the and play at Westray Park. History The club was formed in 1941 and spent the first 42 years playing in local leagues. This was followed by a move slightly further a field with a 7-year stint in the Leicester and District League and on winning that League's Premier Division title in the 1992/3 season, a further move up in standard to the Leicestershire Senior League was achieved. Following one season in Division One of the Senior League, promotion to the top division was achieved. The club dropped into Division One in the 2001–02 season but went back into the Premier Division in the 2008–2009 season where they have remained ever since. Cottesmore, Rutland
Cottesmore (often pronounced Cotts'more) is a village and civil parish in the north of the county of Rutland in the East Midlands of England. In terms of population it is the largest village in Rutland, and the third-largest settlement after Oakham and Uppingham. This is due in part to the presence of Kendrew Barracks (formerly RAF Cottesmore). The village's name means 'moor of Cott'. At the time of Edward the Confessor (mid 11th century), "Manors Cottesmore" was held, together with Greetham, Rutland, Greetham, by Saxon called Goda. Goda held 12 carucates of land, three of which were held in tax to the Danegeld. The King held three carucates in demesne and three socmen with 40 villeins and six bordarii held 20 carucates. Of the land held by the manor, one Goisfridus held half a carucate; he had one plough and eight villeins. Rutland () is a ceremonial county and unitary authority in the East Midlands, England. Westray Park
Westray (, sco, Westree) is one of the Orkney Islands in Scotland, with a usual resident population of just under 600 people. Its main village is Pierowall, with a heritage centre, the 15th-century Lady Kirk church and pedestrian ferry service to nearby Papa Westray island. Westray has a number of archeological sites dating from 3500 BC, and remains of several Norse-Viking settlements. The spectacular sea cliffs around Noup Head are home to thousands of seabirds. The Leicester and District Football League is an association football competition based in England. The league has three divisions, of which the highest, the Premier Division, sits at level 12 of the English football league system and is a feeder to the Leicestershire Senior League. The Leicestershire Senior League (currently sponsored by Everards Brewery) is a football competition based in Leicestershire, England. History The league was formed in 1896, had a two-year hiatus between 1901 and 1903, and has run continuously since 1903 apart from during the two world wars and a four-year spell in the 1930s. A second division was added in 1948. The longest serving team in the league was Holwell Sports, who completed 76 seasons in the league, 60 of them in the top division but left in 2008 to join the new East Midlands Counties Football League. The Football Association Challenge Vase, usually referred to as the FA Vase, is an annual football competition for teams playing in Steps 5 and 6 of the English National League System (or equivalently, tier 9 or 10 of the overall English football league system).
