Corriente Sindical D'Izquierda
The Corriente Sindical d'Izquierda (CSI, ''Left-wing Union Current'' in Asturian language), is an Asturian nationalist and anti-capitalist union in Asturies created in 1980 as a split of Comisiones Obreras. The CIS definest itself as "an Asturian working class union" and has a strong presence and representation in the naval and metallurgical sectors. The CSI has also achieved representation in the labour councils of civil services, media and education, among other sectors. The CSI defends a "combative" model of unionism, and is opposed to the negotiation strategy of Comisiones Obreras and the Unión General de Trabajadores. CSI played an important role in the labor demands of the workers of the naval and metallurgical sectors, especially in Xixón and Avilés. Avilés (; ) is a town in Asturias, Spain. Avilés is, along with Oviedo and Gijón, one of the main cities in the Principality of Asturias. The town occupies the flattest land in the municipality, partially in a land that belonged to the sea, surrounded by small promontories, all of them having an altitude of less than 140 metres. Situated in the Avilés estuary, in the Northern Central area of the Asturian coast, west of Peñas Cape, is its national seaport. Avilés is mainly an industrial city. The Unión General de Trabajadores (UGT, General Union of Workers) is a major Spanish trade union, historically affiliated with the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE). History The UGT was founded 12 August 1888 by Pablo Iglesias Posse in Mataró (Barcelona), with Marxist socialism as its ideological basis, despite its statutory apolitical status.
