Corinne Leclair
Corinne Leclair (born 24 June 1970) is a Mauritian swimmer who represented her country at the 1992 Summer Olympics. Leclair was eleven years old when she started swimming, and just four years later she was competing in the 1985 Indian Ocean Island Games, the Games were held in Mauritius but the fifteen year old struggled against the more experienced ladies, but her time came when she competed in the 1990 Indian Ocean Island Games in Madagascar, where in the seven events she competed in she won six gold medals and one bronze medal, her golds came in the freestyle in 100, 200, 400 and 800 metres plus team gold in the 4 x 100 medley and 4 x 100 freestyle relay. Leclair won one individual gold medal and three silvers at the 1991 All-Africa Games. Swimming is an individual or team racing sport that requires the use of one's entire body to move through water. The sport takes place in pools or open water (e.g., in a sea or lake). Competitive swimming is one of the most popular Olympic sports, with varied distance events in butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke, freestyle, and individual medley. In addition to these individual events, four swimmers can take part in either a freestyle or medley relay. A medley relay consists of four swimmers who will each swim a different stroke, ordered as backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly and freestyle. Swimming each stroke requires a set of specific techniques; in competition, there are distinct regulations concerning the acceptable form for each individual stroke. Mauritian Creoles are the people on the island of Mauritius and in the wider overseas Mauritian diaspora who trace their roots to continental and Malagasy Africans who were brought to Mauritius under slavery from the seventeenth to the nineteenth century. It can also refer to and include members of the island's mixed race or Métis community especially if they happen to be christian. In government records, creoles along with Franco-Mauritians form part of the broader group known as General Population (Mauritius), Population Générale. Nowadays, a significant proportion of Mauritian Creoles have African ancestry with varying amounts of Franco-Mauritian, French and Mauritians of Indian origin, Indian ancestry. Rodrigues, Rodriguais, Agaléga, Agaléans and Chagossians are usually incorporated within this ethnic group.
