Coppa Cittá Di Enna
The Coppa Cittá di Enna was a sports car race held at the Autodromo di Pergusa near Enna, Italy. The race began in 1950 as a non-championship event, before joining the World Sportscar Championship in 1962. Between 1968 and 1981, the race bounced between the WSC, the European Sportscar Championship, and non-championship status. The race was revived as part of the Sports Racing World Cup The FIA Sportscar Championship was a sports car racing series created by John Mangoletsi and was eventually taken control of by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA). Pergusa Circuit
Pergusa is an Italian village of Sicily. It is a ''frazione'' of Enna, the administrative seat of the same-named province. Geography Pergusa lies in hills about 10 km south of Enna. Pergusa is reached by the ''Enna-Gela Road'', which allow to reach Enna (about 5 km of way) and, from there, to entry the motorway Palermo-Catania. The village gives its name to the Pergusa Lake, the only natural lake in Sicily, which is an important site for bird migration. The area is also surrounded by hills and forest known as ''Selva Pergusina''. Sport The lake is surrounded by a well-known racing circuit, the Autodromo di Pergusa, which was created in the 1960s. Franco Bordoni
Franco Bordoni-Bisleri (10 January 1913 – 15 September 1975) was an Italian aviator and racing car driver. He is one of the top-scoring flying ace, aces of the Regia Aeronautica, with 19 air victories. His nickname was "Robur" ("strength" in Latin) and was painted on most of his aircraft and racing cars. Early life Bordoni was born in Milan. His grandfather was Felice Bisleri (1851–1921) who had started and owned the family-run Ferro-China-Bisleri amaro (liqueur), amaro business. Franco studied at the Collegio San Carlo, one of the most exclusive private schools in the city. By the time he had completed his studies, he had already shown himself to be a talented car driver. The young Franco was attracted to flying by the lure of the speed. Maserati 200S
The Maserati 200S (Tipo 52) is a racing car made by Italian automobile manufacturer Maserati as a successor to the Maserati A6GCS. 28 cars were made in total. The development of the 200S, codenamed Tipo 52 started in 1952, led by Vittorio Bellentani. In response to Ferrari's 500 Mondial racing car which featured a four-cylinder engine and was quite successful in sports car racing. The car had a inline-four light-alloy engine, featuring dual overhead valves per cylinder and twin camshafts, double Weber 50DCO3 (first few cars only) or 45DCO3 carburetors. The engine was rated at at 7,500 rpm. Many chassis components were identical to the Maserati 150S in order to speed up development, except the rigid rear axle inherited from the Maserati A6. Maserati made the first three chassis internally, but outsourced a tubular chassis to Gilco which was modified by Maserati. Nino Vaccarella
Nino Vaccarella (4 March 1933 – 23 September 2021) was an Italian sports car racing and Formula One driver. His principal achievements include having won the 1964 24 Hours of Le Mans, and the Targa Florio in 1965, 1971 and 1975, the latter year when it no longer was a World Sportscar Championship event. Sports car career Sicily-born Vaccarella was well known for being a Targa Florio specialist. According to Vic Elford "he knew the roads on Sicily like the back of his hand". He was teamed with Umberto Maglioli for the 1960 Targa Florio in a ''birdcage'' Maserati, which was owned by the Camoradi team. Maglioli had previously won the race twice; Vaccarella was a schoolteacher in Palermo with a great passion for motorsport. They took the lead in the early afternoon on 8 May and maintained it for three laps until the car broke down. The event was won by Joakim Bonnier and Hans Herrmann in a small silver Porsche.
