Converse County, WY
Converse County is a county located in the U.S. state of Wyoming. As of the 2020 United States Census, the population was 13,751. Its county seat is Douglas. History Converse County was created in 1888 by the legislature of the Wyoming Territory, of area annexed from Albany and Laramie counties. Converse County was named for A.R. Converse, a banker and rancher from Cheyenne, Wyoming, who was co-owner with Francis E. Warren in a large ranch in the eastern part of Converse County. A portion of Converse County territory was annexed for the formation of Niobrara County in 1911. Converse County was slightly enlarged with territory from Albany County in 1955 after a special election. An elected commission governs each Wyoming county. Commissioner David R. Edwards resigned in January 2012 after three years of service because of health problems. He was a Republican who had served in the Wyoming House of Representatives from 2001 to 2008. Wyoming State Fair
The Wyoming State Fair is a largely agricultural exposition and rodeo held every August in Douglas in Converse County in southeastern Wyoming. The fairgrounds are located on west Yellowstone Highway on the waterside of North Platte River. The state fair began in 1886 as the ''“First Annual Wyoming Territorial Fair'' near Cheyenne. After events in Laramie, Sheridan and Casper Douglas won the nomination in 1905 to host the fair thereafter. There were no fair events in 1935 to 1937 during the Depression and none in 1942 to 1945 because of World War II The 2012 State Fair, the centennial of the event, was held from August 11-18th, with singer Dierks Bentley headlining the first ever sold-out concert at the fair in Douglas. U.S. Route 287 (US 287) is a north–south (physically northwest–southeast) United States highway. At long, it is the second longest three-digit U.S. Route, behind US 281. It serves as the major truck route between Fort Worth and Amarillo, Texas, and between Fort Collins, Colorado, and Laramie, Wyoming. The highway is broken into two segments by Yellowstone National Park, where an unnumbered park road serves as a connector. U.S. Route 26 (US 26) is an east–west United States highway that runs from Seaside, Oregon to Ogallala, Nebraska. When the U.S. highway system was first defined, it was limited to Nebraska and Wyoming; by the 1950s, it continued into Idaho and Oregon. The highway's eastern terminus is in Ogallala, Nebraska at an intersection with Interstate 80. Its western terminus is south of Seaside, Oregon at an intersection with U.S. Route 101. Thunder Basin National Grassland
The Thunder Basin National Grassland is located in northeastern Wyoming in the Powder River Basin between the Big Horn Mountains and the Black Hills.
