Constitution Of Seychelles
The Constitution of Seychelles is the governing document of the Republic of Seychelles. 18 June, the anniversary of its ratification, is celebrated in Seychelles as "Constitution Day". History Following a successful referendum on 26 March 1979, a new constitution for the country went into effect. This constitution made Seychelles a one-party state with the sole candidate for president nominated by the ruling party. Towards the end of 1991, Seychelles began a process to become a multi-party democracy. Discussions and public debates between the major political parties (namely the Seychelles People's Progressive Front and Seychelles Democratic Party) began to take place in January 1993. Seychelles (, ; ), officially the Republic of Seychelles (french: link=no, République des Seychelles; Creole: ''La Repiblik Sesel''), is an archipelagic state consisting of 115 islands in the Indian Ocean. Its capital and largest city, Victoria, is east of mainland Africa. Nearby island countries and territories include the Comoros, Madagascar, Mauritius, and the French overseas departments of Mayotte and Réunion to the south; and Maldives and the Chagos Archipelago (administered by the United Kingdom as the British Indian Ocean Territory) to the east. A presidential system, or single executive system, is a form of government in which a head of government, typically with the title of president, leads an executive branch that is separate from the legislative branch in systems that use separation of powers. This head of government is in most cases also the head of state. Supreme Court Of Seychelles
The Supreme Court of Seychelles is the highest trial court in Seychelles. It was created in 1903 by Order in Council, when it consisted of one judge who was the Chief Justice of the Court. Appeal cases with final judgments of the court in civil matters were transferred to the Supreme Court of Mauritius. When Seychelles became a Republic in 1976, a new Seychelles Court of Appeal was constituted which consisted of a President, two Justices of Appeal and the Judges of the Supreme Court as ex-officio members. Appeals to the court of Civil Appeal of Mauritius were abolished. In 1993, under the new constitution, the judicial power of Seychelles is vested in the Supreme Court, a Court of Appeal, and such subordinate courts or tribunals that may be established by legislature. One-party State
A one-party state, single-party state, one-party system, or single-party system is a type of sovereign state in which only one political party has the right to form the government, usually based on the existing constitution. All other parties are either outlawed or allowed to take only a limited and controlled participation in elections. United Seychelles Party
United Seychelles is a political party in Seychelles. It publishes a newspaper called ''The People''. It was known as the Seychelles People's Progressive Front (french: Front Progressiste du Peuple Seychellois) until June 2009, when it changed its name to the People's Party (Seychellois Creole: ''Parti Lepep'', PL). The party changed its name again in November 2018, from the People's Party to United Seychelles. The party was founded in 1964 by France-Albert René, under the name Seychelles People's United Party, and it was led by him from its inception. The Seychelles Democratic Party is a political party in Seychelles. It was founded by the late Sir James Mancham in 1964, and governed the country from 1976 to 1977. The politics of Seychelles have historical roots in both one-party socialism and autocratic rule. Following independence from the United Kingdom in 1976, Seychelles was a sovereign republic until 1977, when the original President and leader of the Seychelles Democratic Party, James Mancham, was overthrown in a bloodless coup by the Prime Minister France-Albert René.
