Conquest Hospital
Conquest Hospital is a National Health Service hospital in St Leonards-on-Sea in Hastings in East Sussex, England. It is managed by the East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust. History The laying of the foundation stone for the hospital was commemorated when Kenneth Clarke, Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, Minister of Health unveiled a plaque on the site in 1988. The new facility, which was built by Cementation Company, Cementation, was intended to consolidate services previously provided by the Eversfield Hospital in St Leonards, the Buchanan Hospital in Hastings, the St Helens Hospital in Hastings and the Royal East Sussex Hospital in Hastings. The new hospital was fully available to patients by 1992 and it was officially opened by the Anne, Princess Royal, Princess Royal in February 1993. East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust is an NHS trust which runs Conquest Hospital in St Leonards-on-Sea, Eastbourne District General Hospital, and Bexhill Hospital, all in East Sussex, England. History The trust was established as East Sussex Hospitals NHS Trust on 1 April 2002, taking its current name on 13 May 2011. In 2021 the trust bought the private hospital Spire Sussex Hospital, which is physically linked to the trust's Conquest Hospital in Hastings. It has 22 beds and two operating theatres and 129 employees. It was leased to Spire Healthcare and operated as a private hospital since 1997. The trust will continue to provide private patient facilities at the site. Cementation Company
The Cementation Company was a large British construction business. It was eventually acquired by Trafalgar House, and is now part of Skanska. History The company was established by Albert Francois, a Belgian who had been striving to improve grouting associated with shaft sinking for coal mining, as the Francois Cementation Company based at Doncaster in 1910. The company began to struggle and was in need of strong direction. One of the board members John Alexander Agnew, a director and later Chairman of Consolidated Goldfields asked his son-in-law Abram Rupert Neelands, a Canadian mining engineer to look over the company and report its prospects. The shareholders were impressed with a report produced by Rupert, and asked if he could commit to the company. The offer was accepted on the basis Rupert had 'full charge and complete control', and he took over management of the business in 1921. Healthcare in Sussex was the responsibility of seven Clinical Commissioning Groups covering: Brighton and Hove; Coastal West Sussex; Horsham and Mid Sussex; Crawley; Eastbourne Hailsham and Seaford; Hastings and Rother; High Weald; and Lewes-Havens from 2013 to 2020. Anne, Princess Royal (Anne Elizabeth Alice Louise; born 15 August 1950), is a member of the British royal family.
