Cononley Railway Station
Cononley railway station serves the village of Cononley in North Yorkshire, England. The station, and all trains serving it, are operated by Northern. It was originally opened in late 1847, at a cost of £900, by the Leeds and Bradford Extension Railway. It was closed on 22 March 1965, though its platforms remained intact and the main buildings survived until the mid-1970s. It was reopened by British Rail on 20 April 1988 at a cost of £34,000, which was borne by the county, district and local parish councils and the Rural Development Commission. The station has two platforms and is right beside Cononley's main street. Step-free access is available to both platforms, via the level crossing at the Skipton end of the station. It is unstaffed but has now been fitted with ticket machines (one on the southbound platform and the other on the northbound side adjacent to the exit) to allow passengers to buy before travelling. Cononley
Cononley ( or ) is a village and civil parish in the Craven district of North Yorkshire, England. Historically part of the West Riding of Yorkshire, Cononley is in the Aire Valley south of Skipton and with an estimated population of 1,080 (2001 est.), measured at 1,172 at the 2011 census. It is situated west of the A629 road with access to Skipton, Keighley. Also joined to the Leeds-Carlisle railway, the village has commuter access to Leeds and Bradford. The village is served by Cononley railway station. History and information The origin of the settlement There is evidence that people first settled around Cononley in the Bronze and Iron Ages. The Domesday Book contains only a brief mention of Cononley, but the settlement's name had probably originated several centuries earlier. British Rail Class 333
The British Rail Class 333 are electric multiple unit passenger trains built by CAF between 2000 and 2003 for Northern Spirit (later Arriva Trains Northern), with traction equipment supplied by Siemens Transportation Systems. All have passed to subsequent franchises and subsequent operators Northern Rail, Arriva Rail North and Northern Trains. History In March 1998, Angel Trains ordered 16 three-carriage sets from Siemens Transportation Systems for Northern Spirit to replace the slam-door Class 308s on the Airedale and Wharfedale lines from Leeds to Bradford Forster Square, Ilkley and Skipton.
