The Connecticut Turnpike (officially the Governor John Davis Lodge Turnpike) is a controlled-access highway and former toll road in the U.S. state of Connecticut; it is maintained by the Connecticut Department of Transportation (ConnDOT). Spanning approximately along a generally west–east axis, its roadbed is shared with Interstate 95 (I-95) for from the New York state border in Greenwich to East Lyme; I-395 for from East Lyme to Plainfield; and State Road 695 (SR 695) for from Plainfield to the Rhode Island state line at U.S. Route 6 (US 6) in Killingly. The turnpike briefly runs concurrently with US 1 from Old Saybrook to Old Lyme and Route 2A from Montville to Norwich. Route 8 is a state highway in Connecticut that runs north–south from Bridgeport, through Waterbury, all the way to the Massachusetts state line where it continues as Massachusetts Route 8. Most of the highway is a four-lane freeway but the northernmost is a two-lane surface road. Route description Route 8 begins at Interstate 95 (I-95) exit 27A in Bridgeport. The first through Bridgeport runs concurrently with the freeway portion of Route 25. Approaching the split between Routes 8 and 25, the road expands to six, eight, and even ten lanes. Route 2A is a state highway in the U.S. state of Connecticut. It is a mostly expressway alternate route of Route 2 that bypasses the downtown area of the city of Norwich and serves as the main access road to the Mohegan Sun casino. Route description Route 2A begins at the junction of I-395 and Route 2/Route 32 in Norwich. Route 2A travels south along I-395 for before separating as its own 2-lane freeway at I-395 Exit 9 in Montville. This independent freeway portion of Route 2A runs easterly for about with interchanges for Route 32 and Mohegan Sun Casino before crossing the Thames River on the Mohegan-Pequot Bridge into Preston and ending at Route 12. A concurrency in a road network is an instance of one physical roadway bearing two or more different route numbers. When two roadways share the same right-of-way, it is sometimes called a common section or commons.
