Route 316 is a state highway in east central Connecticut running from Hebron to Andover. Route description Route 316 begins at an intersection with Route 66 in Hebron and heads generally north into Andover. In Andover, it continues generally north to end at an intersection with US 6 at the town center. History Route 316 was commissioned from SR 816 in 1963 and has had no significant changes since. Hebron, Connecticut
Hebron is a town in Tolland County, Connecticut, United States. The population was 9,098 at the 2020 census. Hebron was incorporated May 26, 1708. In 2010, Hebron was rated #6 in Top Towns in Connecticut with population between 6,500 and 10,000, according to Connecticut Magazine. The villages of Hebron Center, Gilead and Amston are located within Hebron. Amston has its own postal ("zip") code and post office. The remnants of two long since abandoned communities, Grayville and Gay City, are also located in Hebron. The site of the latter is now Gay City State Park. History The town of Hebron was settled in 1704, and incorporated on 26 May 1708 within Hartford County from Non-County Area 1 of the Connecticut Colony. Andover is a rural town in Tolland County, Connecticut, United States. The population was 3,151 at the 2020 census. Andover is home to Andover Elementary School for grades K–6 while grades 7–12 go to R.H.A.M. middle and high schools. Andover elementary scores above average on standardized testing and student development as well as having a notably low student to teacher ratio of 8:1. Route 66 is a Connecticut state highway running from Meriden to Windham, serving as an alternate east–west route to US 6 through east-central Connecticut. Route description Route 66 officially begins at I-91 in Meriden as the extension of I-691, which officially ends at its interchange with I-91. This freeway portion runs for about into the town of Middlefield, where it becomes a four lane surface road. In Middlefield, it has junctions with the northern end of Route 147, and the southern end of Route 217. It then enters Middletown and becomes Washington Street, where it has junctions with the northern end of Route 157 and the southern end of Route 3 before passing by Wesleyan University and entering the downtown area. Route 66 then turns onto Main Street, as Washington Street becomes SR 545, providing southbound access to the Route 9 freeway. At the north end of Main Street, it intersects Route 17.
