Conlin McCabe
Conlin McCabe (born August 20, 1990) is a Canadian rower. He won a silver medal at the 2012 Olympic games and two gold medals at the 2015 Pan American Games. Born in Brockville, Ontario, McCabe rowed for the University of Washington from 2009 to 2013 (after taking a year off for the Olympics), helping the Huskies win three national championships. McCabe majored in Geography while at Washington. He also came in first at the 2011 CRASH-B Sprints, a 2000-metre indoor rowing race with a time of 5:48.0. This made McCabe the first Canadian to ever win a CRASH-B competition in the Men's Open category. McCabe's international racing career started at the World Rowing Junior Championships. He placed fourth in the coxed pair in 2006 and won a silver medal in the coxless pair in 2007 with Anthony Jacob. Washington Huskies
The Washington Huskies are the intercollegiate athletic teams that represent the University of Washington, located in Seattle. The school competes at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I level as a member of the Pac-12 Conference. Washington students, sports teams, and alumni are called Huskies. The husky was selected as the school mascot by the Associated Students of UW in 1922. It replaced the "Sun Dodger," an abstract reference to the local weather that was quickly dropped in favor of something more tangible. The costumed " Harry the Husky" performs at sporting and special events, and a live Alaskan Malamute, currently named Dubs II, traditionally leads the football team onto the field at the start of games. Coxed Pair
A coxed pair is a rowing boat used in the sport of competitive rowing. It is designed for two persons who propel the boat with sweep oars and is steered by a coxswain. The crew consists of two rowers, each having one oar, and a cox. One rower is on the stroke side (rower's right hand side) and other is on the bow side (rower's lefthand side). The cox steers the boat using a rudder and may be seated at the stern of the boat where there is a view of the crew or in the bow (known as a bowloader). With a bowloader, amplification is needed to communicate with the crew which is sitting behind, but the cox has a better view of the course and the weight distribution may help the boat go faster. When there is no cox, the boat is referred to as a "coxless pair". Racing boats (often called "shells") are long, narrow, and broadly semi-circular in cross-section in order to reduce drag to a minimum. Canada competed at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from August 5 to August 21, 2016. Brian Price (rowing)
Brian Price (born February 19, 1976) has been the Canadian coxswain of the men's eight since 2001. He was born in Belleville, Ontario. Price began rowing on the National Team in 1998 after graduating from Seneca College with a Civil Engineering Technology diploma. The first national team crew that he made was the 1998 development lightweight eight. He made the move to the heavyweight men's team in 1999 and competed at the Pan Am Games in Winnipeg. Price has competed at World Championships in the Eight from 2001 to 2008, 2011 and has earned three World Championship victories ('02,'03,'07) along with a bronze medal most recently in 2011. He has doubled up in the Eight and Coxed Pair four times and medaled each time with a bronze. Malcolm Howard (rower)
Malcolm Howard (born February 7, 1983) is a Canadian rower. He was born in Victoria, British Columbia and graduated from Brentwood College School (Mill Bay, British Columbia) in 2001. While at Brentwood he joined Canada's junior national team. As part of the national team Howard won three World Rowing Championships medals including a silver in 2004 in the men's coxed fours, and a gold in 2007 in the men's eights. He won a gold medal at the 2008 Summer Olympics in the men's eights with Andrew Byrnes, Kyle Hamilton, Adam Kreek, Kevin Light, Ben Rutledge, Dominic Sieterle, Jake Wetzel and cox Brian Price. Robert Gibson (born February 2, 1986 in Kingston, Ontario) is a Canadian rower. In 2004, he was the Canadian Indoor Rowing Champion and became the Canadian High School Rowing champion in the Mens 2- with partner Will Crothers. Will Crothers (born June 14, 1987 in Kingston, Ontario) is a Canadian rower. He started rowing in grade 9 for KCVI, following his brother into the sport. Within just a few years, Will and his rowing partner Rob Gibson were Canadian high school champions in heavyweight pairs. Additionally, Will was named Ontario Male Athlete of the Year in 2005. Jeremiah Brown (rower)
Jeremiah Brown (born 25 November 1985) is one of few Olympians ever to go from complete beginner to Olympic medalist in less than four years. Brown won an Olympic silver medal at the 2012 London Olympics as part of the men's eights for Canada. Brown became leader of the Canadian Olympic Committee's athlete wellness and transition programs for four years before becoming an author and keynote speaker on transformation, perseverance, and resilience. Career Originally playing as an offensive lineman in college football for the McMaster Marauders in Hamilton, Brown decided to move to British Columbia to begin his transition to rowing after watching the Canadian men's eights win gold at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing.
