Confederación Campesina Del Perú
''Confederación Campesina del Perú'' ('Peasants Confederation of Peru', abbreviated CCP) is a farmers' movement in Peru. CCP was founded on April 11, 1947. Its first general secretary was Juan Hipólito Pévez Oliveros, a peasants leader from Ica. Another of its leaders was Hugo Blanco. For a long period CCP was the major peasants organization in the country, and closely linked to Marxist political parties. By the early 1970s CCP was organizationally weak and played a minor role politically. However, in 1973-1974 the organization was revitalized as poor peasants and agricultural labourers who had not benefitted from the 1969 land reform joined its ranks and reunified the organization. These groups seized began a struggle of land seizures, especially in areas in Huaura, Piara and Huaral. By 1978, CCP had a quarter of a million members. Ica, Peru
Ica () (Quechua: ''Ika'') is a city and the capital of the Department of Ica in southern Peru. While the area was long inhabited by varying cultures of indigenous peoples, the Spanish ''conquistador'' Jerónimo Luis de Cabrera claimed its founding in 1563. As of the 2017 census, it had a population of over 282,407. The city suffered extensive damage and loss of life during the 2007 Peru earthquake. Location The city is located on the Ica River about to the south of Lima, along the desert coast of southern Peru. Further south along the Pan-American Highway lies the city of Nazca. History In 2007, researchers found the fossil remains of a prehistoric penguin, ''Icadyptes salasi'', which inhabited the Atacama Desert about 30 million years ago. Hugo Blanco (politician)
Hugo Blanco Galdós (15 November 1934 – 25 June 2023) was a Peruvian political figure, leader of the Confederación Campesina del Perú (CCP, Campesino Confederation of Peru), leader of Trotsky's Fourth International and a writer. Early life When Blanco was a child he heard that a landowner applied a redhot iron on an indigenous man.https://www.sfu.ca/las/news/documents/Biography_HugoBlanco.pdf When he was 10 he met an indigenous leader who told him the story of his struggles. He involved himself in school strikes against Manuel A. Odría, which the students won. At age 20 he traveled to Buenos Aires and began studying in the university. Without finishing his agronomic studies in Argentina's Universidad de la Plata he became a worker in a factory because he did not want to work for the landowners. The Agrarian Reform in Peru was a process of land redistribution initiated in the 1960s by struggles of peasants for their land in the Cusco Region and legally implemented by three laws of land reform, of which the land reform law promulgated in 1969 under General Juan Velasco Alvarado changed the country's agrarian infrastructure from a system dominated by haciendas where the ''peones'' – in their majority indigenous peasants – worked for their ''patrones'', the ''hacendados'', in semi-feudal relationships, first to large cooperatives controlled by the state and then predominantly to land ownership by smallholders, in the Andes to a large extent within indigenous peasant communities ''(comunidades campesinas)'' recognized by the government.
