It was named by Queensland Place Names Board on 1 March 1969 after the Irish Condon family (William Condon) who had settled on the Ross River, Queensland, Ross River and had a dairy farm. The Ross River is a river located in northern Queensland, Australia. The long river flows through the city of Townsville and empties into the Coral Sea. It is the major waterway flowing through Townsville and the city's main source of drinking water.
