Comstock Compass High School
Comstock Compass High School is an alternative high school in the Comstock Public School District in Kalamazoo, Michigan designed for non-traditional students who have struggled in traditional high school programs. As of 2011 the school had a staff of eight teachers and an enrollment of 210 high school students and 70 adult education students. In 2009, Compass adopted the Michigan Merit Curriculum, which requires students pass a core of classes which includes Algebra 2, Physics, and Chemistry; students need 19 total credits to graduate. After the 2009-2010 school year, the school did not meet Adequate Yearly Progress standards for the state of Michigan. Compass offers an online curriculum as well as a dual enrollment program that allows high school students to receive college credit from Kalamazoo Valley Community College. Kalamazoo ( ) is a city in the southwest region of the U.S. state of Michigan. It is the county seat of Kalamazoo County. At the 2010 census, Kalamazoo had a population of 74,262. Comstock Public School District
The Comstock Public School District resides in Comstock Charter Township near the city of Kalamazoo, Michigan, and is part of the Kalamazoo RESA Intermediate School District. Comstock Public Schools also serves portions of Kalamazoo Township, Pavilion Township, City of Portage, and the City of Kalamazoo. It also serves a section of Eastwood. Alternative High School
Alternative High School (AHS) is a public senior high (secondary) school in Calgary, Alberta, Canada; which teaches grades 10 through 12. AHS is currently located at the Clinton Ford Centre, which was home to the former Clinton Ford Elementary School. AHS was launched, independent of the board, in September 1974 by a parents group. It reflected many of the "alternative education" ideas that were popular at the time. The early philosophy the school borrowed from the ideas of A. S. Neill, who founded Summerhill School.
