''Compelled'' is a 1960 British neo noir black and white crime film, one of two films directed by Ramsey Herrington. It stars Ronald Howard and Beth Rogan. Plot Ex-con Paul Adams is an engineer blackmailed into assisting with a jewel theft. Unbeknownst to his wife, he becomes involved in the building of a tunnel from a bookshop to a jeweller's. Beth Rogan
Jenifer Puckle (19 July 1931 – 25 November 2015), known professionally as Beth Rogan, was a British film actress and Rank Films starlet of the 1950s and 60s. She was married and divorced three times, said by friends to be charming but "dangerous to know", and grew her own cannabis. Reputedly, she was the model for Diana Scott, the central character in John Schlesinger's film '' Darling'' (1965). Early life Puckle was born in Walmer, Kent. She was always known as Jeni to friends and family. Her father was Kenneth Puckle, a major in the Royal Marines and a veteran of the Gallipoli campaign and her mother was Enid Puckle (née Gray). Garard Green
Garard Green (31 July 1924 – 26 December 2004) was a British actor and commentator. Green was born in Madras, India in 1924 where his father was superintendent of the government press. When his father died in 1933 the family returned to the United Kingdom and Green finished his education at Watford Grammar School. He developed an interest in acting at Watford but when he left the school he returned to India and the Military Academy and was commissioned into the 2nd King Edward VII's Own Gurkha Rifles (The Sirmoor Rifles). At the end of the war he was demobilised and won a Sir Alexander Korda scholarship to Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA). On leaving RADA he worked in the theatre in London. In 1953 he married the actress Margaret Tansley. Richard Shaw (actor)
Richard Shaw (19 November 1920 – 11 April 2010) was an English actor remembered for appearing in the science fiction franchises ''Quatermass'' and ''Doctor Who'', as well as having a regular role as henchman Ryan in the children's series ''Freewheelers''. Shaw appeared in the 1959 TV serial of '' Quatermass and the Pit'' playing drill operator Sladden. He was asked to reprise the role in the 1967 film adaptation but was unable to do so due to other commitments. Duncan Lamont (from ''The Quatermass Experiment'') was therefore cast instead. Shaw made three appearances in ''Doctor Who'': ''The Space Museum'', ''Frontier in Space'' and ''Underworld''. John Stuart (born John Alfred Louden Croall; 18 July 1898 – 17 October 1979), was a Scottish actor, and a very popular leading man in British silent films in the 1920s. He appeared in three films directed by Alfred Hitchcock. Biography The Gary Cooper pub in Dunstable stands as a tribute to one of the Hollywood greats, but if fate had taken a different direction the pub could have been called The John Stuart. Cooper and Stuart were contemporaries in 1912 at Dunstable Grammar School – now Ashton Middle School – in High Street North. Both went into acting, but while Cooper went on to win two Oscars for Sergeant York and High Noon, Stuart stayed in Britain and is virtually forgotten. Yet his career spanned 59 years, during which he made more than 160 films and 60 TV dramas and serials, and appeared in about 150 plays. Ronald Howard (British Actor)
Ronald Howard (7 April 1918 – 19 December 1996) was an English actor and writer. He appeared as Sherlock Holmes in a weekly television series of the same name in 1954. He was the son of the actor Leslie Howard. Early life Howard was born in South Norwood, London, the son of Ruth Evelyn (née Martin) and the actor Leslie Howard. He attended Tonbridge School. After graduating from Jesus College, Cambridge, Ronald became a newspaper reporter for a while but decided to become an actor. Film career His first film role was an uncredited bit part in ''Pimpernel Smith'' (1941), a film directed by and starring his father in the title role, though young Howard's part ended up on the cutting room floor.
