Compagnie Du Kasaï
The Compagnie du Kasai (Kasai Company) was a Belgian company established to exploit the resources of the Kasai River basin in the Congo Free State. At first it was mainly involved in harvesting wild rubber, but later moved into palm oil and mining. Background The German Wissman explored the Kasai River in 1884 and established a short-lived commercial establishment there. The Sandford Exploring Expedition started commercial operations on the river and founded the Luebo post in 1887, then in 1888 merged with SAB. In 1890 Le Marinal created Lusambo. The Société Hollandaise arrived in the region in 1890, and for six years SAB and the Société Hollandaise were the only traders in the region. Kilo-Moto
Kilo-Moto is a region in the far northeast corner of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) where gold was discovered in the Ituri River by government prospectors in 1903. Moto is in the Haut-Uélé Province and Kilo in the Ituri Province. Location Kilo Moto is a semi-continuous greenstone belt in the northeast of the DRC. In the northern part, the Moto Goldmines project has an aggregate lease area of , with most activity centered on a area around the old Durba gold mine. It is possible that as much as 25.7m ounces of gold are present. In the center is the Zani-Kodo area. To the south is the Mongbwalu field, a concession to the north and east of Bunia that is mainly owned by AngloGold Ashanti with the DRC parastatal ''Office des Mines de Kilo Moto'' (OKIMO) holding a 13.78% interest. Louis Pierre Alphonse Valcke (22 December 1857 – 16 March 1940) was a Belgian viceroy and soldier. Early years (1857–1880) Louis Pierre Alphonse Valcke was born in Bruges on 22 December 1857. His parents were Liévin-Pierre Valcke and Clémence d'Ongena. He studied at the Bruges Atheneum, then entered the Military School on 1 December 1874. He was promoted to lieutenant on 1 January 1877. On 27 February 1878 he was assigned to the engineers regiment in Antwerp. Léon Rom
Léon Auguste Théophile Rom (1859–1924) was a Belgian soldier and colonial official who became prominent in the administration of the Congo Free State during the late 19th century. Career Léon Rom was born to a poor family in Mons, Belgium, in 1859 and entered the Belgian Army at the age of 16. He subsequently worked as a customs official before leaving Belgium for the new Congo Free State in 1886 as one of the few hundred whites working in the colony's administration. Receiving a series of rapid promotions, Rom commanded the station at Stanley Falls (now Boyoma Falls) and was eventually promoted District Commissioner of Matadi. He later transferred to the colonial military, the ''Force Publique'', where he served as a captain. Alphonse Van Gèle
Alphonse van Gèle, also written van Gele or Vangele (25 April 1848 – 23 February 1939), was a Belgian soldier who served as the Vice-Governor General of the Congo Free State from December 1897 until January 1899. He established the Equator Station, or Station de l’Équateur, today Mbandaka, and concluded a treaty with the powerful Zanzibar trader Tippu Tip at the Stanley Falls station, today Kisangani. He is known for having confirmed that the Uele River was the upper part of the Ubangi River. Early years Alphonse van Gèle was born in Brussels on 25 April 1848. Alphonse De Valkeneer (2 June 1898 – 5 September 1973) was a Belgian colonial administrator. He was the last Belgian governor of Équateur Province from 1957 to 1960 before the Belgian Congo became independent as the Republic of the Congo (Léopoldville). Early years Alphonse-Jean-Joseph-Sylvain De Valkeneer was born in Brussels, Belgium on 2 June 1898. His parents were Sylvain De Valkeneer (1844–1930) and Jeanne Joséphine Versé (1853–1918). He studied the humanities, then on 26 November 1915 volunteered for the Belgian Army. He qualified as an artillery officer in Onivel, France, in 1917, then joined the 5B and 11th artillery regiments.
