Waregem (; vls, Woaregem), sometimes known as Waereghem, is a municipality and city located in the Belgian province of West Flanders. The municipality lies in the valley of the river Leie, between Kortrijk and Ghent. It is part of the arrondissement of Kortrijk and comprises the towns of Beveren, Desselgem, Sint-Eloois-Vijve and Waregem proper. On January 1, 2019, Waregem had a total population of 38,260. The total area is 44.34 km² which gives a population density of 863 inhabitants per km². History Origins The first inhabitants of this forested region settled along the Leie well before Roman times. Bronze coins and artifacts associated with the Gallo-Roman culture show extensive activity in this area in the first centuries of our era. This is not surprising given the fact that Sint-Eloois-Vijve stood at the intersection of two important Roman roads: Cassel-Tongeren and Bavai-Oudenburg. The name of the current municipality refers to a certain “Waro” clan or trib ...

Ultratop
Ultratop is an organization which generates and publishes the official record charts in Belgium. Ultratop is a non-profit organization, created on the initiative of the Belgian Entertainment Association (BEA), the Belgian member organization of the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry. Two parallel sets of charts are concurrently produced and published, one on behalf of Belgium's mainly Dutch-speaking Flanders region, and the other catering to the nation's mainly French-speaking region of Wallonia. Ultratop charts The music charts produced by Ultratop organization are separated along regional-language boundaries, an unusual division that is justified by the cultural differences in Belgium. So it is that the mainly Dutch-speaking Flanders region has one set of charts of record activity there, while the mainly French-speaking Wallonia region has another set to measure popularity in those provinces. The charts are broadcast on several Belgian radio statio ...

De Afrekening
De Afrekening is a Belgian radio and record chart broadcasting program featured on Studio Brussel (commonly referred to as "StuBru"). During the program, thirty top-rating "alternative" tracks are played, with the chart being assembled by the program's audience via a voting poll system. Two or three times each year, StuBru will release an album featuring the program's most popular chart tracks. Beginning in 1990, albums are still released today and continue to prove popular with fans. Since the chart is assembled via voting, unexpected results and outcomes will sometimes occur. One such instance occurred on 19 April 2006, with two separate songs placing first after receiving an equal number of votes. The songs in question were Placebo's "Song to Say Goodbye," and A Brand's "Hammerhead". Another historical event occurred on 31 May 2006. For the first time ever, a song featured on the annual Eurovision Song Contest entered the charts. This song was Lordi's "Hard Rock Hallelujah." ...
