Comox—Alberni was a federal electoral district in British Columbia, Canada, that was represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1917 to 1979, and again from 1988 to 1993. History This riding was created in 1914 from parts of Comox—Atlin riding. It was abolished in 1976 when it was redistributed into Comox—Powell River and Nanaimo—Alberni ridings. It was recreated in 1987 from parts of those two ridings. The new riding consisted of: * the Town of Comox; * the City of Courtenay; * Electoral Areas A, B and C of Comox-Strathcona Regional District; * the Alberni-Clayoquot Regional District; * Electoral Areas E, F, G and H of Nanaimo Regional District; * that part of Electoral Area C of Nanaimo Regional District lying west of the east boundary of Dunsmuir Land District; * Electoral Area E of Powell River Regional District; * the Village of Cumberland; and * the Towns of Parksville and Qualicum Beach. Nanaimo—Alberni was a federal electoral district (Canada), electoral district in British Columbia, Canada, that was represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1979 to 1988. It was subsequently recreated and was represented in the House of Commons from 1997 to 2015. Demographics Nanaimo—Alberni has the highest median age of all federal electoral districts in Canada (50.1 years of age). This riding was created in 1976 from parts of Coast Chilcotin, Comox–Alberni and Skeena ridings. Bob Skelly
Robert Evan Skelly (14 April 1943 – 6 August 2022) was a Canadian politician from British Columbia. Skelly was born 14 April 1943, at New Westminster, British Columbia. The son of Robert Daniel Skelly and Dorothy Graham, he was educated at the University of British Columbia. In 1965, he married Sonia Alexandra Shewchuk. He had a daughter, Susan Kathleen Skelly, born 1973; and a son, Robert Mark William Skelly, born 1975. Susan married Michael Ramsay, and they have three children: Rebecca Ruth, born 2001; Sarah-Grace Victoria, born 2002; and Maria Anne Heather, born 2010. He served in the BC Legislature from 1972 to 1987. The longest-serving member for Alberni constituency in history, he was elected five times. John Lambert Gibson
John Lambert Gibson (7 March 1906 – 17 December 1986) was an independent member of the House of Commons of Canada. He was a logger and lumber merchant by career. Gibson was born in Vancouver, British Columbia. With his brother, Gordon Gibson, Sr., he was involved with the logging-based company Gibson Brothers Industries. John Gibson served as the company's president at one point. He was first elected to Parliament at the Comox—Alberni riding in the 1945 general election at which he was classified as an Independent Liberal. He was re-elected for a second term in 1949 as a purely independent member. Gibson left federal office in 1953 and returned to Gibson Brothers Industries. Richard Durante
Richard John Joseph Durante (born 17 August 1930 at New Westminster, British Columbia - 11 September 2003) was a Liberal Party member of the House of Commons of Canada. He was a supervising principal by career. In the 1968 general election, Tom Barnett was initially declared the winner of the Comox—Alberni riding over Durante by a three-vote margin. Alan Webster Neill
Alan Webster Neill (October 6, 1868 - July 7, 1960) was a Canadian politician. He was elected as MLA for the riding of Alberni in 1889 and 1900 serving until 1903. He was Alderman on the first Council of the newly incorporated Town of Alberni (1912) and Mayor from 1916 to 1917. Neill was MP for the riding of Comox—Alberni from December 6, 1921, to June 10, 1945. He arrived in the Alberni Valley in 1891 as a farmer and business owner of Pioneer Feed Store.
