Comox—Alberni was a federal electoral district in British Columbia, Canada, that was represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1917 to 1979, and again from 1988 to 1993. History This riding was created in 1914 from parts of Comox—Atlin riding. It was abolished in 1976 when it was redistributed into Comox—Powell River and Nanaimo—Alberni ridings. It was recreated in 1987 from parts of those two ridings. Parksville, British Columbia
Parksville is a city on Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Canada. As of the 2021 Census, Parksville's population was 13,642, representing a 9.5% increase over the 2016 Census. Parksville is well known for its large, sandy beaches at Parksville Bay and Craig Bay. The city's best-known annual event since 1982 is a sandcastle-building competition held from mid-July to mid-August, dubbed "Parksville Beachfest". Herbert Sylvester Clements
Herbert Sylvester Clements (November 8, 1865 – November 30, 1939) was a Canadian politician. Born in Dover Township, Canada West, a manufacturer and farmer, he was first elected to the House of Commons of Canada in the 1904 federal election for the Ontario electoral district of Kent West. A Conservative, he was defeated in 1908. He was elected in the 1911 elections for the British Columbia riding of Comox—Atlin. Alan Webster Neill
Alan Webster Neill (October 6, 1868 - July 7, 1960) was a Canadian politician. He was elected as MLA for the riding of Alberni in 1889 and 1900 serving until 1903. He was Alderman on the first Council of the newly incorporated Town of Alberni (1912) and Mayor from 1916 to 1917. Neill was MP for the riding of Comox—Alberni from December 6, 1921, to June 10, 1945. He arrived in the Alberni Valley in 1891 as a farmer and business owner of Pioneer Feed Store. From about 1908 to 1911 Neill was the Indian Agent for the West Coast of Vancouver Island enforcing federal government policies of assimilation and the residential school system. John Lambert Gibson
John Lambert Gibson (7 March 1906 – 17 December 1986) was an independent member of the House of Commons of Canada. He was a logger and lumber merchant by career. Gibson was born in Vancouver, British Columbia. With his brother, Gordon Gibson, Sr., he was involved with the logging-based company Gibson Brothers Industries. John Gibson served as the company's president at one point. He was first elected to Parliament at the Comox—Alberni riding in the 1945 general election at which he was classified as an Independent Liberal. He was re-elected for a second term in 1949 as a purely independent member. Gibson left federal office in 1953 and returned to Gibson Brothers Industries. Richard John Joseph Durante (born 17 August 1930 at New Westminster, British Columbia - 11 September 2003) was a Liberal Party member of the House of Commons of Canada. He was a supervising principal by career. In the 1968 general election, Tom Barnett was initially declared the winner of the Comox—Alberni riding over Durante by a three-vote margin. Thomas Speakman Barnett
Thomas Speakman Barnett (September 3, 1909 – June 5, 2003) was a politician born in Red Deer, Alberta, Canada. He attended schools in Alberta and British Columbia, and earned a degree at the University of British Columbia. He married Ruth Evelyn Pidcock on July 1, 1942. He worked in saw mills, as editor of the Wells Chronicle ( Wells, BC), and was active in trade union affairs. Barnett was a member of the United Church of Canada. He did missionary work as a student. Barnett was manager of the Alberni and District Co-op, the first employee of the Alberni and District Credit Union and a long-serving executive member of the Industrial, Wood and Allied Workers of Canada (IWA), Local 1-85. Robert Evan Skelly (14 April 1943 – 6 August 2022) was a Canadian politician from British Columbia. Skelly was born 14 April 1943, at New Westminster, British Columbia. The son of Robert Daniel Skelly and Dorothy Graham, he was educated at the University of British Columbia. In 1965, he married Sonia Alexandra Shewchuk. He had a daughter, Susan Kathleen Skelly, born 1973; and a son, Robert Mark William Skelly, born 1975.
