Community Université Grenoble Alpes
The Community Université Grenoble Alpes (french: Communauté Université Grenoble Alpes) is the association of universities and higher education institutions (ComUE) for institutions of higher education and research for Grenoble, Chambéry, Annecy and Valence in the Rhône-Alpes region of France. The association was created as a ComUE according to the 2013 Law on Higher Education and Research (France), effective December 29, 2014. At the same time, the three Grenoble universities announced a plan to officially merge as of 1 January 2016. Grenoble Ecole de Management (GEM) is a French graduate business school (Grande Ecole) renowned for its teaching in innovation and management. The consular institution was founded in 1984 in Grenoble, in the Auvergne-Rhone Alpes region, by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI) of Grenoble. The school was ranked among the top 10 French business schools. GEM is part of the Conférence des Grandes écoles, and one of the only 1% of business schools in the world which holds the "Triple Crown" of international business school accreditations: EQUIS by the EFMD, AMBA, and the AACSB. The Université Grenoble Alpes (UGA, French: meaning "''Grenoble Alps University''") is a public research university in Grenoble, France. Founded in 1339, it is the third largest university in France with about 60,000 students and over 3,000 researchers. Law On Higher Education And Research (France)
The Law on Higher Education and Research of July 22, 2013 replaced laws promulgated by the previous French government in 2006 and 2007 (for example the law on Liberties and Responsibilities of Universities) regarding the organization and autonomy of universities and other research and higher education institutions in France. During the 2012 French presidential election, François Hollande promised to review and improve conditions for undergraduate and graduate education and research in French universities. Shortly after the election, Geneviève Fioraso, minister for higher education and research, launched an assessment process led by an independent committee in dialogue with the university community. The committee presented a report on December 17, 2012 containing 135 recommendations.
