Community Radio Awards
The Community Radio Awards are an accolade bestowed upon creatives in the community sector of broadcast radio in the United Kingdom. The awards showcase the work of community radio volunteers. History The Community Radio Awards were founded in 2016 by Martin Steers. The 2016 awards ceremony was held in Birmingham The 2017 awards ceremony was held on 23 September in Bristol following a process involving over 350 entries in 16 categories from 70 community stations. The 2018 ceremony was held on 15 September in Sheffield, with 360 entries considered from 77 stations in 18 categories. The 2019 ceremony was held in Barry, Wales in October, receiving more than 425 entries. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 ceremony was held online on December 7th, receiving 460 entries for consideration from 90 stations. Community Radio
Community radio is a radio service offering a third model of radio broadcasting in addition to commercial and public broadcasting. Community stations serve geographic communities and communities of interest. They broadcast content that is popular and relevant to a local, specific audience but is often overlooked by commercial (or) mass-media broadcasters. Community radio stations are operated, owned, and influenced by the communities they serve. They are generally nonprofit and provide a mechanism for enabling individuals, groups, and communities to tell their own stories, to share experiences and, in a media-rich world, to become creators and contributors of media. Bedford
Bedford is a market town in Bedfordshire, England. At the 2011 Census, the population of the Bedford built-up area (including Biddenham and Kempston) was 106,940, making it the second-largest settlement in Bedfordshire, behind Luton, whilst the Borough of Bedford had a population of 157,479. Connor Morgans
Connor Morgans (born 26 November 1999) is a Welsh radio DJ and producer working across radio and podcasts, currently broadcasting on Radio Cardiff. Early life Morgans was born in Swansea, Wales and grew up in Pencoed, Wales. Career He currently presents the weekend breakfast programme for Radio Cardiff on the current Welsh music scene, playing emerging artists. He has been broadcasting on the station since 2017. Morgans previously presented for Bridgend's Hospital Radio, he won Gold for Best Male Presenter at the HBA UK Awards in 2022. In August 2022, Bridgend's Hospital Radio nominated Morgans as a trustee making him the youngest trustee in hospital radio. Radio Ysbyty Gwynedd
Ysbyty Gwynedd ( en, Gwynedd Hospital) is a district general hospital in Bangor, Gwynedd, Wales. It is managed by Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board. History The hospital, which was commissioned to replace the aging Caernarfon and Anglesey Infirmary, opened in May 1984. A specialist cancer centre opened at the hospital in September 2010 and a major expansion of the accident and emergency facilities was completed in 2019. Poppyland Radio
Overstrand is a village (population 1,030) on the north coast of Norfolk in England, two miles east of Cromer. It was once a modest fishing station, with all or part of the fishing station being known as Beck Hythe. In the latter part of the 19th century it was catapulted into prominence, and became known as “the village of millionaires”. History The village's name means 'ridge shore', or perhaps 'narrow shore' to contrast with nearby Sidestrand. The London journalist and travel writer Clement Scott came to Overstrand in 1883, christened the area ‘’Poppyland’’, and wrote about the church tower on the cliff edge and its “Garden of Sleep”. While in Overstrand he stayed at the Mill House with miller Alfred Jermy and his daughter Louie, who became “the Maid of the Mill” in his articles about ‘’Poppyland’’. Petersfield is a market town and civil parish in the East Hampshire district of Hampshire, England. It is north of Portsmouth. Kirkcaldy ( ; sco, Kirkcaldy; gd, Cair Chaladain) is a town and former royal burgh in Fife, on the east coast of Scotland. It is about north of Edinburgh and south-southwest of Dundee. The town had a recorded population of 49,460 in 2011, making it Fife's second-largest settlement and the 12th most populous settlement in Scotland. FromeFM is a non-profit Community radio, community radio station in Frome, Somerset, England. It is run by Frome Community Productions Community interest company, CIC and produced by over 80 volunteers. It broadcasts around 65 new programmes per month 24/7 online and on 96.6 MHz FM. FromeFM provides niche music programmes; Frome focussed debates and reportage; sustained support for and coverage of the work of community groups; and radio for children.
