The communauté urbaine Caen la Mer is the '' communauté urbaine'', an intercommunal structure, centred on the city of Caen. It is located in the Calvados department, in the Normandy region, northwestern France. It was created in January 2017, replacing the previous ''Communauté d'agglomération Caen la Mer'' and two communautés de communes.Arrêté préfectoral 28 July 2016 Its area is 362.9 km2. Its population was 268,470 in 2018, of which 105,512 in Caen proper. Ouistreham
Ouistreham () is a commune in the Calvados department in Normandy region in northwestern France. Ouistreham is a small port with fishing boats, leisure craft and a ferry harbour. It serves as the port of the city of Caen. The town borders the mouth of the Canal de Caen à la Mer. Origin of the place name The name Ouistreham derives from Saxon , meaning 'village'. There is no clear explanation for the first part of the name. A popular etymology is based on Middle French ( Old French ), meaning ' oyster'. Blainville-sur-Orne
Blainville-sur-Orne (, literally ''Blainville on Orne'') is a commune in the Calvados department in the Normandy region in northwestern France. Geography Blainville-sur-Orne is on the west side of the Canal de Caen à la Mer, just south of Bénouville and the famous Pegasus Bridge of D-Day fame. The town is also home to a Renault Trucks (formerly Saviem) manufacturing plant. The plant is across the canal to the southeast, between the canal and the Orne River. Just across the river from the plant is the commune of Colombelles. Directly across the canal from Blainville-sur-Orne is the fourth commercial French port for the importation of exotic wood, generally coming from the Gulf of Guinea. Authie () is a commune in the Calvados department in the Normandy region of north-western France. The inhabitants of the commune are known as ''Althavillais'' or ''Althavillaises''. The commune has been awarded one flower by the ''National Council of Towns and Villages in Bloom'' in the ''Competition of cities and villages in Bloom''. Geography Authie is located some north-west of the centre of Caen. Access to the commune is by road D220 from Villons-les-Buissons in the north-east which passes through the centre of the commune and the village and continues to Carpiquet in the south. Philippe Duron
Philippe Duron (born 19 June 1947) is a French politician. He was the mayor of Caen between 2008 and 2014 and deputy for Calvados's 1st constituency. Philippe Duron received a degree in history in 1975 and was a teacher until 1997. His political models are Pierre Mendès France and François Mitterrand. As first secretary of the Socialist Party in Calvados, he has been successful in uniting the parties on the left in all of Lower Normandy.
