"Comin' from Where I'm From" is an R&B–soul song written by American singer-songwriter Anthony Hamilton and songwriter/producer Mark Batson for Hamilton's second studio album of the same name. Released as the album's lead single, it was produced by Batson. Initially, it was released as an airplay-only single, entering the ''Billboard'' Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart at number eighty-nine the week of August 16, 2003, spending twenty weeks and in the process and peaking at number sixty. In October 2003, the song was issued as a proper physical single. It was nominated for two Grammy Awards in 2004: " Best Traditional R&B Vocal Performance" and "Best R&B Song". Anthony Hamilton teamed up with The LOX member Sheek Louch for a remix with three rapped verses from Louch. Anthony Cornelius Hamilton (born January 28, 1971) is an American singer, songwriter, and record producer who rose to fame with his platinum-selling second studio album '' Comin' from Where I'm From'' (2003), which featured the title track single " Comin' from Where I'm From" and the follow-up " Charlene". Nominated for 17 Grammy Awards, he is also known for the song "Freedom" from the soundtrack album of ''Django Unchained'' co-written and sung as a duo with indie soul singer Elayna Boynton. Career Hamilton started singing in his church's choir at age 17. He attended South Mecklenburg High School where he sang in their award-winning choir under the direction of Mark Setzer. The Grammy Award for Best Traditional R&B Performance is an accolade presented at the Grammy Awards, a ceremony that was established in 1958 and originally named the Gramophone Awards, to performers of quality traditional R&B vocal performances. ''Soulife'' is the first compilation album by American singer Anthony Hamilton. It was released on June 20, 2005, by Atlantic and Rhino Records. His third album overall, the album is a collection of previously unreleased songs recorded by Hamilton. The song "Love and War", which features Macy Gray, appeared on the soundtrack to the 2001 film '' Baby Boy''. After leaving MCA Records, which released his debut album ''XTC'' in 1996, Hamilton found a home at Soulife Records, a small Los Angeles-based independent label, where he recorded tracks between 1999 and 2001 for what was supposed to be his second studio album. Soulife went bankrupt before it could release the material, leaving the album unreleased. G-Unit (short for Guerilla Unit) was an American hip hop group formed by longtime friends and East Coast rappers 50 Cent, Tony Yayo, and Lloyd Banks.
