Colwyn Bay Community Hospital ( cy, Ysbyty Cymuned Bae Colwyn) is a community hospital in Colwyn Bay, Wales. It is managed by the Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board. History The hospital has its origins in the Colwyn Bay Jubilee Cottage Hospital which was established in 1899 which was built on land donated by Winifred, Countess of Dundonald.The North Wales Weekly News - 16 December 1910 age 2/ref> On 14 December 1910, Winifred, Countess of Dundonald was invited to open a new operating theatre. Colwyn Bay ( cy, Bae Colwyn) is a town, community and seaside resort in Conwy County Borough on the north coast of Wales overlooking the Irish Sea. It lies within the historic county of Denbighshire. Eight neighbouring communities are incorporated within its postal district. Winifred Cochrane, Countess of Dundonald (Welsh: Winifred, Iarlles Dundonald) was born on 16 April 1859. She was a philanthropist, a Lady of Grace of the Order of St John, Marchioness of Maranham, and was known within Wales by her bardic name, Rhiannon. She was the Welsh wife of Douglas Mackinnon Baillie Hamilton Cochrane (1852–1935). Ancestry Winifred was the second daughter and sole heir of Robert Bamford Hesketh and Ellen Jones-Bateman. She was born into the royal house of Marchudd ap Cynan, the founder of the VIII Noble Tribe of North Wales. Cynan's descendants, the Lloyds of Plas yn y Gwrych were based in the Parish of Abergele, where Winifred, through her ancestors shared co-sanguinity with Llywelyn the Great. Sidney Colwyn Foulkes (1884–1971) OBE FRIBA FILA AMTPI was a Welsh architect, especially known for his architectural designs in Colwyn Bay, cinemas and council estates in North Wales. He was one of the first industrial landscape architects in Britain. Early years Foulkes was born to Edward Foulkes, a builder, and Susan Cowx in Colwyn Bay, and was christened at St John’s Colwyn Bay Methodist Church in Pwllycrochan Avenue, a building his father had just completed. At the christening it was reported that he received the middle name Colwyn after the minister questioned why he had no middle name. Foulkes attended the former Conway Road School, and also undertook technical classes held in Douglas Road.
