Colwyn Bay
Colwyn Bay ( cy, Bae Colwyn) is a town, community and seaside resort in Conwy County Borough on the north coast of Wales overlooking the Irish Sea. It lies within the historic county of Denbighshire. Eight neighbouring communities are incorporated within its postal district. Established as its own separate parish in 1844 with just a small grouping of homes and farms where the community of Old Colwyn stands today, Colwyn Bay has expanded to become the second-largest community and business centre in the north of Wales as well as the 14th largest in the whole of Wales with the urban statistical area, including Old Colwyn, Rhos-on-Sea, and Mochdre and Penrhyn Bay, having a population of 34,284 at the 2011 census. Ednyfed Fychan
Ednyfed Fychan ( 1170 – 1246), full name Ednyfed Fychan ap Cynwrig, was a Welsh warrior who became Seneschal to the Kingdom of Gwynedd in Northern Wales, serving Llywelyn the Great and his son Dafydd ap Llywelyn. Ednyfed claimed descent from Marchudd ap Cynan, Lord of Rhos, 'protector' of Rhodri Mawr, King of Gwynedd. He was the ancestor of Owen Tudor and thereby of the Tudor dynasty. As is usual with medieval orthography, a variety of spellings were used for his name in medieval sources, such as Vychan, Idneved Vachan, and Edeneweth Vakan. Warrior Ednyfed is said to have first come to notice in battle, fighting against the army of Ranulph de Blondeville, 4th Earl of Chester who attacked Llywelyn, this act of war was at the behest of King John of England. A nationwide census, known as Census 2001, was conducted in the United Kingdom on Sunday, 29 April 2001. This was the 20th UK census and recorded a resident population of 58,789,194. Municipal boroughs were a type of local government district which existed in England and Wales between 1835 and 1974, in Northern Ireland from 1840 to 1973 and in the Republic of Ireland from 1840 to 2002. Foehn Wind
A Foehn or Föhn (, , ), is a type of dry, relatively warm, downslope wind that occurs in the lee (downwind side) of a mountain range. It is a rain shadow wind that results from the subsequent adiabatic warming of air that has dropped most of its moisture on windward slopes (see orographic lift). As a consequence of the different adiabatic lapse rates of moist and dry air, the air on the leeward slopes becomes warmer than equivalent elevations on the windward slopes. Foehn winds can raise temperatures by as much as 14 °C (25 °F) in just a matter of hours. Eirias Park
Eirias Park ( cy, Parc Eirias) is a public park in Colwyn Bay, Conwy County Borough, Wales, was once described as "The park by the sea". The park has a sports complex, including the Eirias Stadium and Colwyn Leisure Centre. History The park was created when the local council purchased on 12 April, 1921 and the remainder of the park in 1929. The official opening of the playing fields took place on 27 September, 1923. Situated within the park is the Colwyn Leisure Centre which was opened by Princess Margaret in 1981. Facilities include a six-lane 25-metre swimming/leisure pool with various water features and a separate water slide and the main sports hall. There is also a fitness suite, health suite, sauna, steam room and warm spa pool. A community ( cy, cymuned) is a division of land in Wales that forms the lowest tier of local government in Wales. Welsh communities are analogous to civil parishes in England. Bay Of Colwyn Town Council
Bay of Colwyn Town Council is an elected community council serving the town of Colwyn Bay in North Wales, and neighbouring communities of Rhos-on-Sea and Old Colwyn. Background Bay of Colwyn Town Council was formed in 1996 following the dissolution of Colwyn Borough Council. The Council covers the communities of Colwyn Bay (Glyn and Rhiw electoral wards), Old Colwyn (Colwyn and Eirias wards) and Rhos-on-Sea (Dinarth and Rhos wards). Each ward elects four town councillors, making a total of 24 councillors. The Council elects a Chairman every year in May, the Chairman also holds the post of Town Mayor. The town council has been involved since 2014 in a battle with the county council to save and restore the Grade II-listed Colwyn Bay pier.
