Collie is a town in the South West region of Western Australia, south of the state capital, Perth, and inland from the regional city and port of Bunbury. It is near the junction of the Collie and Harris Rivers, in the middle of dense jarrah forest and the only coalfields in Western Australia. At the 2021 census, Collie had a population of 7,599. The Shire of Collie is a local government area in the South West region of Western Australia, about east of Bunbury and about south of the state capital, Perth. The Shire covers an area of , and its seat of government is the town of Collie. History The Shire of Collie originated in the amalgamation of the Municipality of Collie (1901) and the Collie Road District (1900) to form the Collie Coalfields Road District on 2 March 1951. It was declared a shire and named the Shire of Collie with effect from 1 July 1961 following the passage of the ''Local Government Act 1960'', which reformed all remaining road districts into shires. The Köppen climate classification is one of the most widely used climate classification systems. Collie Senior High School
Collie Senior High School is a comprehensive public co-educational high day school, located in Collie, a regional centre in the South West region, south of Perth, Western Australia. Overview The first school in Collie was opened in 1899, when the name of the town was still Coalville. The initial enrolment was for 55 students. The enrolment doubled the next year and a new school house was built. From 1924 the school was known as Collie District High School, and became a Senior High School in 1952. In 1900 the school had an enrolment of 110 and by 2012 had an enrolment of 486 students between Year 8 and Year 12, approximately 5% of whom were Indigenous Australians. Dale Miller is the current Principal of Collie Senior High School, after taking up this position in 2017. Griffin Coal is a large coal mine near the town of Collie in Western Australia, producing about of coal annually. In September 2022 its current owner, the Griffin Coal Mining Company, a subsidiary of Lanco Infratech, entered receivership.
