Collarbone (band)
Collarbone is a rock band from Helsinki, Finland, founded in 2000. Influences from alternative rock and hard rock can be heard in the group's music. The band has released two full-length albums. Background The beginning The four founding members, Thomas Kirjonen, Janne Suominen, Matti Piipponen and Janne Sivunen formed the band in late 2000. The band made three demo recordings and an EP called "Devil in Miss Verril", which was released in 2004. The band signed a record deal with Spinefarm Records after winning Ääni ja Vimma (Sound and Fury), a major Finnish band contest, in 2005. ''The Back of Beyond'' The band's debut album, ''The Back of Beyond'', was released in March 2007. It was produced by Jonas Olsson, mixed by Jens Bogren and mastered by Ue Nastasi in Sterling Sound, New York City. Ääni ja Vimma (meaning in Finnish "The Sound and the Fury") is a popular annual band competition in Finland. Since 2000, a youth competition called Junior Ääni ja Vimma has also been held for those under the age of 15. Finnvox Studios
Finnvox Studios is a recording studio located in Pitäjänmäki, Helsinki, Finland. It was founded by Erkki Ertesuo, Kurt Juuranto and Lejos Inc. in 1965 and is the longest running studio recording facility in Finland. The original multi-track recording equipment and continuous technical updates of the studio machines and acoustics soon made Finnvox the most sought after studio in the country. Finnish artists which recorded at Finnvox in the 1970s include Rauli Somerjoki, M. A. Numminen and their bands, Wigwam, Agit-prop and many others. Up until the 1990s, Finnvox also operated a vinyl record mastering and pressing facility, which was later converted in new studio rooms and in a mixing and recording room for film and TV productions. Risto Hemmi
Risto Hemmi (born 1956, Kuopio) is a prominent figure in the Finnish music industry. For a long time, he was the CEO of Finland's largest recording studio, Finnvox Studios, and is still a board member and one of the owners. Hemmi began his career at Finnvox in 1979 and has worked in various capacities such as a sound engineer, mixer, and studio manager. He served as the CEO of the studio from 1993 until recently. All of Finnvox's nine studios have been designed by Hemmi. One of Hemmi's early commercially successful works was the Pelle Miljoona Oy's album "Moottoritie on kuuma" (1980). Hemmi has recorded and mixed over 500 albums, many of which have achieved gold or platinum status. In addition to his work in the studio, Hemmi has also contributed to the film industry by recording and mixing music for about thirty films, including the 2014 film Big Game, directed by Jalmari Helander and starring Samuel L. Spinefarm Records is a Finnish independent record label focusing mainly on heavy metal artists. It is a subsidiary of Universal Music Group. History Spinefarm Records was originally founded in 1990 by Riku Pääkkönen as a mail-order distribution company for rock and heavy metal albums and singles, but later became a record label for Finnish acts such as Nightwish, Children of Bodom, and Sonata Arctica. Hard Rock
Hard rock or heavy rock is a loosely defined subgenre of rock music typified by aggressive vocals and distorted electric guitars. Hard rock began in the mid-1960s with the garage, psychedelic and blues rock movements. Some of the earliest hard rock music was produced by the Kinks, the Who, The Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Cream, Vanilla Fudge, and the Jimi Hendrix Experience.
