Colin Shindler
Colin Shindler (born 1949) is an English author, social historian and Affiliated Lecturer in History at Cambridge University. Life and career Born in Manchester, Colin Shindler graduated with a degree in History from Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge, where he later completed his PhD thesis on Hollywood and the Great Depression. Since 1998 he has been lecturing and teaching at Cambridge on films and American history. He has written numerous books on British and American cultural history with an emphasis on the impact of sport and film on modern society. ''Manchester United Ruined My Life'' and ''Manchester City Ruined My Life'' are a pair of memoirs about his support for Manchester City. He also wrote the screenplay for the 1988 film '' Buster'' and worked as a television producer in England between 1977 and 1996. His older brother is the lawyer Geoffrey Shindler. Bob Barber (cricketer)
Robert William "Bob" Barber (born 26 September 1935) is a former English cricketer who played first-class cricket for Cambridge University, Lancashire and Warwickshire from 1954 to 1969. He also played 28 Test matches for England. He was named as one of the five Wisden Cricketers of the Year in 1967. An outstanding schoolboy cricketer at Ruthin School, Barber initially struggled to gain a place whilst at Cambridge after making his debut in 1955. Scoring 1000 runs for the first time in 1959, Barber was made captain of Lancashire. Cricket is a bat-and-ball game played between two teams of eleven players on a field at the centre of which is a pitch with a wicket at each end, each comprising two bails balanced on three stumps. The batting side scores runs by striking the ball bowled at one of the wickets with the bat and then running between the wickets, while the bowling and fielding side tries to prevent this (by preventing the ball from leaving the field, and getting the ball to either wicket) and dismiss each batter (so they are "out").
