Colin Rasmussen
Colin 'Col' Rasmussen (1947−1997) was an Australian rugby league footballer who played in the 1960s and 1970s. Col Rasmussen came through the Sutherland-Shire juniors to be graded with the St George Dragons in 1967. Rasmussen was a tall Hooker, who played seven seasons with Saints between 1967 and 1974. He got his chance as a first grade regular, replacing Norm Henderson in 1970. Col Rasmussen's position in the team was finally taken by the up-and-coming junior, Steve Edge. Col Rasmussen is remembered as the hooker who played against George Piggins in the 1971 Grand Final. Rasmussen played 100 first grade games during his career at St. George Dragons. George Piggins
George Leslie Piggins AM (born 14 October 1944) is an Australian rugby league personality. He is a former player, coach and administrator of the South Sydney Rabbitohs club. Following their exclusion from the National Rugby League premiership at the end of the Super League war, Piggins also successfully led the Rabbitohs' battle for re-inclusion in the NRL in the early 2000s. Since 2003, the "George Piggins Medal" has been awarded annually to South Sydney's player of the year. 1971 NSWRFL Season
The 1971 New South Wales Rugby Football League premiership was the sixty-fourth season of Sydney's professional rugby league football competition, Australia's first. Twelve teams, including six foundation clubs and another six admitted since 1908, competed for the J. J. Giltinan Shield during the season, which culminated in a Grand Final match for the W.D. & H.O. Wills between the South Sydney and St. George clubs. Season summary The season saw the number of tackles in a set increased from four to six. In addition, the number of points awarded for a field goal was reduced from two to one. Each side met all others twice in twenty-two regular season rounds, resulting in the top four teams consisting of Manly-Warringah, South Sydney, St. George and Parramatta who fought out three finals for the right to play in the Grand Final. Steve Edge (rugby League)
Steve Edge is an Australian former rugby league footballer who played in the 1970s and 1980s. A New South Wales Blues representative he played in the St. George Dragons' 14th and 15th grand final wins and captained the Parramatta Eels to their 1st, 2nd and 3rd premierships. Regarded as one of the most successful captains under the limited tackle rule, Steve Edge played in a remarkable eleven grand finals in all grades during his career. He holds a unique record in Australian rugby league history as the only man to captain two clubs to Grand Final premiership success. Norm Henderson (rugby League)
Norm Henderson is an Australian former rugby league footballer who played in the 1960s and 1970s. Career Norm Henderson career began at Balmain in 1964. He played four seasons with the Tigers moving to the St. George in 1968, to take over the vacant Hooking position after the retirement of Ian Walsh the previous year. Henderson played on at St George for four seasons between 1968 - 1971. He then went on to captain the Cessnock Goannas rugby league club, where he gained legendary status when he captained/coached the club to the Newcastle Premiership in 1972. Death Henderson died at Cessnock Hospital on 22 Aug 1975, 3 months after a major brain operation.
