Coimbra Sports, previously Coimbra Esporte Clube, commonly known as Coimbra, is a Brazilian football club based in Contagem, Minas Gerais state. History The club was founded on 5 January 1986. The club competed for the first time in a professional competition in 2010, when they participated in the Campeonato Mineiro Segunda Divisão, being eliminated in the First Stage of the competition. They won the 2018 Campeonato Mineiro-Segunda Divisão and the 2019 Campeonato Mineiro-Módulo II. In 2020 they played for first time the Campeonato Mineiro. Campeonato Mineiro is the state football league of the state of Minas Gerais and is controlled by the Minas Gerais Football Federation FMF (Federação Mineira de Futebol). The history of Campeonato Mineiro can be divided into two parts: before and after the construction of the Mineirão, in September 1966. The Mineirão is the biggest football stadium of Minas Gerais and it is located in Minas Gerais' state capital, Belo Horizonte. Before the stadium's inauguration América and Atlético were the most successful teams in the state, but after the construction of the Mineirão, known as the "Era Mineirão" ("Mineirão Era"), another team from the capital, Cruzeiro, also gained prominence. 2020 Campeonato Mineiro
The 2020 Campeonato Mineiro (officially Campeonato Mineiro SICOOB 2020 – Módulo I for sponsorship reasons) was the 106th edition of the state championship of Minas Gerais organized by FMF. The competition began on 21 January 2020 and ended on 30 August 2020. On 15 March 2020, FMF suspended the Campeonato Mineiro indefinitely due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Brazil. Complying with the guidelines of the Governo do Estado de Minas Gerais, the tournament resumed behind closed doors on 26 July 2020. Atlético Mineiro won their 45th Campeonato Mineiro title after defeating Tombense 3–1 on aggregate. Cruzeiro were the defending champions, but were eliminated in the first stage. Estádio Raimundo Sampaio, more commonly known as Independência ( pt, Independence), is a football stadium located in the Horto neighborhood of Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brazil. It was built in 1950 for the FIFA World Cup, held in Brazil. Initially its capacity was 30,000 people, but after the reconstruction between 2010 and 2012, the capacity is approximately 23,000 people. It belonged to the defunct Sete de Setembro Futebol Clube, which is why the stadium is called Independence (the name of the team, September 7, is Brazil's Independence Day).
