Coihaique
Coyhaique (), also spelled Coihaique in Patagonia, is the capital city of both the Coyhaique Province and the Aysén Region of Chile. Founded by settlers in 1929, it is a young city. Until the twentieth century, Chile showed little interest in exploiting the remote Aisén region. The Carretera Austral southern highway opened in the 1980s. Geography and climate The commune of Coyhaique spans an area of . It is surrounded by rivers (Simpson and Coyhaique) and by mountains. The mountains may be snow-covered throughout the year, thus Coihaique is sometimes called the city of eternal snow. Patagonia () refers to a geographical region that encompasses the southern end of South America, governed by Argentina and Chile. Puerto Montt
Puerto Montt (Mapuche: Meli Pulli) is a port city and commune in southern Chile, located at the northern end of the Reloncaví Sound in the Llanquihue Province, Los Lagos Region, 1,055 km to the south of the capital, Santiago. Puerto Aysén
Puerto Aysén is a city of Chile located in the Aysén del General Carlos Ibáñez del Campo Region, above the head of Aisén Fjord in the country's extreme south. Puerto Aisén, which is the capital city of both the Aysén Province and the commune of Aisén is located from the Regional Capital of Coyhaique, and from the port of Puerto Chacabuco, main entry point to Puerto Aisén by sea. Teniente Vidal Airport ( es, Aeródromo Teniente Vidal, ) is an airport serving Coyhaique, capital of the Aysén Region of Chile. The airport is southwest of Coyhaique.
