Cogealac
Cogealac is a commune in Constanța County, Northern Dobruja, Romania. The commune includes six villages: * Cogealac (historical names: ''Domnești'', tr, Kocalak) * Gura Dobrogei (historical names: ''Câvârgic'', tr, Kıvırcık) * Râmnicu de Jos * Râmnicu de Sus * Tariverde (historical name: ''Dorotea'') The territory of the commune also includes the former village of ''Colelia'' ( tr, Kuleli), at , disestablished by Presidential Decree in 1977. The former village was populated by Dobrujan Germans until 1942 and it is now the site of the Colilia Monastery. The Fântânele-Cogealac Wind Farm (with an installed nameplate capacity of 600 MW) is partly located on the territory of the commune. On March 2, 2022, while searching for a crashed MiG-21 LanceR in the area, an IAR 330 military transport helicopter crashed near Gura Dobrogei, killing 7 military personnel. Fântânele-Cogealac Wind Farm
The Fântânele-Cogealac Wind Farm is the largest onshore wind farm in Romania and in Europe, with installed nameplate capacity of 600 MW from 240 General Electric 2.5xl wind turbines. The wind farm has been built for the ČEZ Group. History The project was first envisioned by United States developer Continental Wind Partners, a renewable energy partnership backed by private equity fund Good Energies Investments with operations in several countries including Romania, Bulgaria, Poland, Australia and New Zealand. In 2008 Continental Wind Partners agreed to sell the 600 MW wind farm project to the Czech energy utility ČEZ Group. Planning permission was granted in 2007 and construction began in September 2008, with the first turbine being erected by August 2009. IAR 330
The IAR 330 is a licence-built version of the Aérospatiale SA 330 Puma helicopter, manufactured by the Romanian aerospace manufacturer IAR Brașov. The IAR 330 was produced under a licensing agreement with the French aerospace firm Aérospatiale, signed on 30 July 1974. On 22 October 1975, the first Romanian-built Puma conducted its maiden flight. Deliveries to customers begun shortly thereafter; by 1980, around 25 IAR 330s had been produced for both domestic and overseas customers. Various oversea countries opted to procure the IAR 330, including Pakistan, Ivory Coast, United Arab Emirates, and Sudan. The largest operator of the type would be the Romanian Air Force, who initially used it primarily as a utility transport.
