Codrin Ștefănescu
Codrin Ștefănescu (born 20 December 1968) is a Romanian politician, former deputy between 2000 and 2004, and the founder and incumbent general secretary of the Alliance for the Homeland (ApP). Studies and professional career According to the CV published on the website of the Chamber of Deputies, Ștefănescu is a graduate of the Faculty of Informatics and the Faculty of International Economic Relations; universities and study cycles are not specified. Between 1990 and 1993, Ștefănescu was attached to Europress in Bucharest, editor of culture and art history. In 1993, he founded the Young Romania Foundation, of which he was president from 1996 to 2002. After graduating, he worked as an economist at Coryllus Trading. In an interview for DCNews, Ștefănescu stated that after completing his studies he opened a brokerage firm together with several colleagues from the university, which he later sold to a consortium of banks. The Alliance for the Homeland ( ro, Alianța pentru Patrie, ApP) is a nationalist political party in Romania. History The party was founded on 19 September 2021 by Codrin Ștefănescu and promoted by Liviu Dragnea, who was the leader of the Social Democratic Party (PSD) between 2015 and 2019 until his judicial demise. Dragnea holds no position in the party, as he is barred from political offices until 2024. Dragnea explained to have agreed with Ștefănescu on the idea of founding their own party in October 2020 and in May 2021, and the party's name was first registered in court by four other people. The Parliament of Romania ( ro, Parlamentul României) is the national bicameral legislature of Romania, consisting of the Chamber of Deputies ( ro, Camera Deputaților) and the Senate ( ro, Senat). It meets at the Palace of the Parliament in Bucharest, the capital of the country. Prior to the modification of the Constitution in 2003, the two houses had identical attributes. A text of a law had to be approved by both houses. If the text differed, a special commission ( ro, comisie de mediere) was formed by deputies and senators, that "negotiated" between the two houses the form of the future law. Liviu Nicolae Dragnea (; born 28 October 1962) is a Romanian engineer and former politician. Starting his career in the Democratic Party (PD), he joined the Social Democratic Party (PSD), eventually becoming its leader. After holding several positions as Minister, he resigned from the cabinet in May 2015, following a conviction in a case involving electoral fraud, for which he received a two-year suspended sentence in April 2016. In December 2016, following that year's legislative election, he became President of the Chamber of Deputies of Romania. In May 2019, he was sent to prison for three and a half years, convicted of arranging payment for two party members employed in fake jobs and paid by a state agency. Simultaneously, his term in the Chamber drew to a close. In July 2021, the prison sentence was lifted, ending his jail time 1 year and 4 months earlier.
