The Clásico Vallecaucano (Spanish language, Spanish for "Valle del Cauca Department, Valle del Cauca Derby") is a football local derby contested between América de Cali and Deportivo Cali, both clubs based in Cali, Colombia. It is regarded as one of Colombia's oldest and most passionate rivalries, having been first played in an amateur regional championship in 1931, and with both contenders being closely matched in the all-time series. The Copa Simón Bolívar (English: ''Simon Bolivar Cup'') was an international football competition organized by the Venezuelan Football Federation. The idea of this competition was to create a tournament among the champions clubs of the countries liberated by Simon Bolivar. It was played six times from its first edition in 1970 to the last in 1976, thus integrating the league champions clubs of Venezuela, Colombia, Peru, Ecuador and Bolivia. Copa Merconorte
The Copa Merconorte () was an international football competition organized by CONMEBOL from 1998 to 2001 by clubs from Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Venezuela and starting in 2000 clubs from the CONCACAF confederation were invited including Costa Rica, Mexico, and the United States. The competition ran alongside the Copa Mercosur—based on the actual Mercosur economic pact between Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay. Teams did not directly qualify for this competition. Instead, the aim was to generate profits through the television contracts by inviting the most marketable clubs from each country. The CONMEBOL Sudamericana, named as ''Copa Sudamericana'' (; pt, Copa Sul-Americana ), is an annual international club football competition organized by CONMEBOL since 2002. The 1965 Campeonato Profesional was the 18th season of Colombia's top-flight football league. 13 teams competed against one another. Deportivo Cali won their first league title in history, cutting a streak of four straight championships won by Millonarios. The tournament was once again played under a round-robin format, with every team playing each other four times (twice at home and twice away) for a total of 48 matches.
