The División Intermedia ( en, Intermediate Division), also known as the Segunda División ( en, Second Division), is the second tier professional football league in Paraguay. It is organized by the Asociación Paraguaya de Fútbol. Overview Since 1910 the second division tournaments have changed rules, number of teams and names. As of 2006, División Intermedia is the name for the second division and 16 teams are part of it. 2023 Paraguayan División Intermedia
The 2023 División Intermedia season, named ''"Homenaje a Don Alejandro Dos Santos"'', was the 105th season of the second-tier league of Paraguayan football and 26th under the División Intermedia name. The season began on 31 March and ended on 9 October 2023, and the fixtures for the season were announced on 14 December 2022. Sol de América won their fourth title in the competition, securing the championship with two rounds to go after a 2–1 victory over Martín Ledesma on 25 September. The other promoted team was 2 de Mayo, who clinched their promotion two rounds prior to the end of the season with a 1–1 draw with 3 de Febrero on 23 September. The Paraguayan football league system is a series of interconnected leagues for football clubs in Paraguay. Overview At the top is the ''Primera División'' or ''División de Honor'' (first division) with 12 clubs. Below the 1st level is the ''Intermedia'' (second division). In order to get promoted to the Intermedia there are two subdivisions at the 3rd level: the ''Primera División B Metropolitana'', which comprises teams from the Gran Asunción area; and the ''Primera División B Nacional'' which contains the best teams from the different Departments of Paraguay.
