Club House (band)
Club House were an Italian Italo house band formed in Italy in 1983. The group consisted of Carl Fanini, Gianfranco Bortolotti, Hidalgo Serra, and Silvio Pozzoli. History The group scored a hit in 1983 with a mashup medley of Steely Dan's " Do It Again" and Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean", titled "Do It Again Medley with Billie Jean". It reached No. 7 in Ireland, No. 11 in the UK and No. 75 on the U.S. ''Billboard'' Hot 100. The same two songs in Club House's 1983 medley were also recorded as a note-for-note dance medley by the Detroit, Michigan band Slingshot, which hit number-one on the dance chart with its cover version. There was a further version by Brooklyn Express, a New York studio project by Began Cekic and Eric Durham, also in 1983. Italo House
Italo house (often simply referred to as "Italian" or "Italian house" in the UK) is a form of house music originating in Italy. Typically popular in Italy, Britain, and United States since the late 1980s, it fuses house music and Italo disco. The genre's main musical characteristic is its use of predominantly electronic piano chords in a more lyrical form than classic Chicago house records. The best known example is Black Box's "Ride on Time", but the genre became very popular in the late 1980s and early 1990s for the uplifting and anthemic tunes against the background of indie-dance. "Do It Again Medley with Billie Jean" is a song by the Italian music project Club House, released in 1983. The song combines elements of two hits made famous by other artists: " Do It Again", a 1973 top-ten hit by Steely Dan and Michael Jackson's number-one song from earlier in the year, "Billie Jean". Songwriting credit on the track is given to Jackson as well as the primary members of Steely Dan, Walter Becker and Donald Fagen. The song reached the ''Billboard'' Hot 100 at number 75, but was a much bigger hit in Belgium, Ireland, the Netherlands and the UK, where it peaked at 6, 7, 10 and 11 on their local charts, respectively. The Spencer Davis Group
The Spencer Davis Group were a British band formed in Birmingham in 1963 by Spencer Davis (guitar), brothers Steve Winwood (keyboards, guitar) and Muff Winwood (bass guitar), and Pete York (drums). Their best known songs include the UK number ones "Somebody Help Me" and "Keep on Running" (both written by reggae musician Jackie Edwards), " I'm a Man" and "Gimme Some Lovin'", which reached #2 in the UK and #7 in the US. Steve Winwood left in 1967 to form rock band Traffic. After releasing a few more singles, the band ceased to be active in 1969. Davis revived the group on two more occasions, without the involvement of the Winwood brothers, first in 1973–1974 for two more albums, and again from 2006, since when they had primarily been a touring act. Yé Ké Yé Ké
"Yé ké yé ké" is a song by Guinean recording artist Mory Kanté. It was released in 1987 as a single from his third studio album, ''Akwaba Beach''. The song became an international hit; it was one of Africa's best-ever selling hits as well as being a European number one in 1988, making it the first ever African single to sell over one million copies. The song was a top five hit in France, Switzerland, Germany and the Netherlands, where it topped the chart for two weeks. A remix, the "Afro Acid Mix" was especially made for UK release, where it reached No. 25. In 1994, German techno duo Hardfloor remixed the song and released this new version with moderate success. Mory Kanté (29 March 195022 May 2020) was a Guinean vocalist and player of the kora harp. He was best known internationally for his 1987 hit song "Yé ké yé ké", which reached number-one in Belgium, Finland, the Netherlands, and Spain. The album it came from, ''Akwaba Beach'', was the best-selling African record of its time. Early life Kanté was born in Albadaria, French Guinea (a part of French West Africa at the time) on 29 March 1950. His father was El Hadj Djeli Fodé Kanté and his mother, Fatouma Kamissoko, was a singer. They were one of Guinea's best known families of griot (hereditary) musicians. He was of mixed Malian and Guinean descent. After being brought up in the Mandinka griot tradition in Guinea, he was sent to Mali at the age of seven years – where he learned to play the kora, as well as important voice traditions, some of which are necessary to become a griot. Slingshot is a disco/dance music band from Detroit, Michigan. Its members include Jack Tann, Greg Sawton, David Van DePitte and John Lewis. Their one and only chart entry was a 1983 cover version of a medley of Steely Dan's song " Do It Again" and Michael Jackson's No. 1 hit single "Billie Jean", originally done in the same year by Italo disco studio project Clubhouse.
