Club Fonograma was a United States-based daily Internet publication established in 2008 that was devoted to music criticism and commentary, music news, mixtapes, podcasts, and artist interviews. Its focus is on global pop and independent music from artists of Spanish, Caribbean, and Latin American origin or background. It was notable for its eclectic and idiosyncratic English-language coverage of mostly Spanish-language music. It was praised as the "Pitchfork of Latin Music" and as "hands down the best go-to music site for indie music out of America and Spain." Club Fonograma was created in Phoenix, Arizona in 2008 by Chicano cinephile Carlos Reyes, while attending college in Phoenix. During its run, the site has expanded from a simple music review site and now also covers events such as South by Southwest, the Latin American Music Conference, Vive Latino, and Festival NRMAL. Quiero Club
Quiero Club (Spanish for "I want club") is an experimental pop indie band from Monterrey, Mexico. Since they took the music scene by surprise in 2004, Priscila González, Gustavo Mauricio, Marcela Viejo, Luis Fara and Boscop Benavente made the core members of what the band achieved musically and historically by playing at the most important venues and festivals in Mexico, Peru, Colombia, Argentina and Spain. ''Bueninvento'' ("Goodinvention") is an album released by Mexican singer-songwriter and instrumentalist Julieta Venegas in 2000 to critical acclaim. "Sería Feliz" (translated as "I'd be happy") was the single released for this album, accompanied by a video that received rotation on music TV channels. Atemahawke
''Atemahawke'' is the debut album of Mexican surrealist rock band Porter, released on May 15, 2007. To date, the only single released is "Host of a Ghost". The name consists of an English phonetic translation of Nahuatl for Guadalajara, '' Ātemaxac'' . Each of the album's songs have a back story which are printed in the album, giving further explanation to the lyrics. The album was later named the 3rd best of the decade by Latin music website Club Fonograma. This is the band's last release with vocalist Juan Son. Following the album's release, Porter performed at Al Borde's Rock N' Bliss in Hollywood, California on October 12, 2007, the band's first performance outside of Mexico. Porter (band)
Porter is a Mexican indie rock band based in Guadalajara, Mexico. Despite their uncommon sound the band got decent radio airplay on important broadcasting stations, their videos: "Espiral", "Daphne" and "Host of a Ghost" had a good reception in music video channels. "Daphne" was placed in the Telehit's Top Ten videos and, more recently, "Host of a Ghost". (October 2007). The band has overall acceptance among critics & the audience, which often labels their sound as weird, interesting and vanguardish. ''Cuatro Caminos'' (English: Four Roads) is the fifth album by Mexican rock band Café Tacuba, released in 2003. Background ''Cuatro Caminos'' was produced by Gustavo Santaolalla, Dave Fridmann (The Flaming Lips, Weezer) and Andrew Weiss (Ween). The title ''Cuatro Caminos'' references the name of a major road intersection and metro station in Mexico City. The album is marked by wordplay, as in the song titles "Hoy Es" (sounds like "Oyes", meaning "You're Listening"), "Soy o Estoy", and "Hola Adiós" (sounds like "Hola a Dios", meaning "Hello to God"). Café Tacvba (Pronounced ''kaˈfe taˈkuβa'') is a band from Ciudad Satélite, Mexico. The group gained popularity in the early 1990s. ''Hu Hu Hu'' is the third album by Mexican singer-songwriter Natalia Lafourcade, released in May 2009 after an almost four years hiatus from popular music. (She had released a classical EP, ''Las 4 Estaciones Del Amor'' in 2008.) Lafourcade decided to name the album "Hu Hu Hu" because she perceived the phrase to be "an expression of joy". The album was produced by Emmanuel del Real (who produced "Casa" in 2005), Marco Moreno and Ernesto García. ''Mena'' is the second studio album by Chilean recording artist Javiera Mena. It was officially released worldwide on September 1, 2010 via iTunes, and on September 15, 2010 physically through indie label Unión del Sur, as a follow up to her successful debut, '' Esquemas Juveniles'' (2006). Javiera Alejandra Mena Carrasco (born June 3, 1983) is a Chilean indie electropop musician living in Lavapiés, Madrid. She started her musical career in the Chilean indie music scene in 2001, and achieved wider success after the release of her first studio album in 2006. Her musical style tends to be synthesized electronic sound, although prior to her official debut she made acoustic-oriented songs accompanied solely by guitar.
