Club Atlético River Plate Puerto Rico
Club Atlético River Plate Puerto Rico is a Puerto Rican professional football team based in Fajardo, Puerto Rico. Founded in 2007 as a franchise of the Argentine club River Plate, the team plays in the Puerto Rico Soccer League, and is the reigning Supercopa DirecTV champion. The team plays its home games at Roberto Clemente Stadium in nearby Carolina. The club's colors are red, white and black. Their current head coach is Argentine Walter Zermatten. History On 27 June 2004, a group of 31 fans of C.A. River Plate of Argentina signed an affiliation document with the club. The event was led by the group's founder, Steven Alvarez. After several meetings, the group organized an in-door football team along with the team from a neighboring town Academia Quintana, finishing in the fourth place of an invitational tournament held in Bayamon which marked its debut. Fajardo (, ) is a town and municipality -Fajardo Combined Statistical Area. Fajardo is the hub of much of the recreational boating in Puerto Rico and a popular launching port to Culebra, Vieques, and the U.S. and British Virgin Islands. Gigantes De Carolina (football Club)
Carolina Giants are an association football club from Carolina, Puerto Rico. They were formed in 2008 as the football branch of the existing baseball side Gigantes de Carolina. They are founding members of the Puerto Rico Soccer League, the first nationwide football league on the island. They play their matches at the Roberto Clemente Stadium which is primarily a baseball venue. The 2010 CFU Club Championship was the 12th edition of the CFU Club Championship, the annual international club football competition in the Caribbean region, held amongst clubs whose football associations are affiliated with the Caribbean Football Union (CFU). The top three teams in the tournament qualified for the 2010–11 CONCACAF Champions League. Supercopa DirecTV 2010
The 2010 Puerto Rico Soccer League season (officially known as the SúperCopa DirecTV 2010 for sponsorship reasons) was a one-off competition that served as a qualifying tournament for Puerto Rican teams to the 2011 CFU Club Championship. It was won by CA River Plate Ponce, who qualified to the Caribbean tournament alongside the Puerto Rico Islanders FC. Competition format For the competition, the eight teams were divided into two groups of four. The teams will play within their group in a double round-robin format. The top two teams from each group advanced to the playoffs, where the winner of each group will play the runner-up of the other group. The playoffs consisted of a semifinal and final stage, each contested over a two legs.
