ClubSwan 36
The ClubSwan 36 is a Finnish sailboat that was designed by Juan Kouyoumdjian as an one design racer and first built in 2018. Giovanni Belgrano was the principal engineer and aerodynamic expert Hervé Devaux designed the rig. Production The design has been built by Oy Nautor AB in Finland, since 2018. It was fist publicly shown in Scarlino, Italy on 3 May 2018, it remains in production. Design The ClubSwan 36 is a racing keelboat, built predominantly of glassfibre, with infused E-glass epoxy corecell foam with carbon fibre reinforcement on the keel grid and also in the lateral bulkhead. It has a fractional sloop rig, with a deck-stepped mast, one set of swept spreaders and carbon fibre spars, including a retractable carbon fibre bowsprit. The standing rigging is made from rod. Juan Kouyoumdjian
Juan Kouyoumdjian is a naval architect. He has designed ocean racing yachts, three of which have won the Volvo Ocean Race. He studied at the University of Southampton doing an Engineering Degree in ship science degree specializing in Yacht and Small Craft. E-glass
Glass fiber ( or glass fibre) is a material consisting of numerous extremely fine fibers of glass. Glassmakers throughout history have experimented with glass fibers, but mass manufacture of glass fiber was only made possible with the invention of finer machine tooling. Hydrofoil
A hydrofoil is a lifting surface, or foil, that operates in water. They are similar in appearance and purpose to aerofoils used by aeroplanes. Boats that use hydrofoil technology are also simply termed hydrofoils. As a hydrofoil craft gains speed, the hydrofoils lift the boat's hull out of the water, decreasing drag and allowing greater speeds. Tiller
A tiller or till is a lever used to steer a vehicle. The mechanism is primarily used in watercraft, where it is attached to an outboard motor, rudder post or stock to provide leverage in the form of torque for the helmsman to turn the rudder. Transom (nautical)
A transom is the vertical reinforcement which strengthens the stern of a boat. This flat termination of the stern is typically above the waterline. The term was used as far back as Middle English in the 1300s, having come from Latin ''transversus'' (transverse) via Old French ''traversain'' (set crosswise). The stern of a boat is typically vertical. It can be raked such that there is an overhang above the water, as at the bow. A reverse transom is angled from the waterline forwards. The stem is the most forward part of a boat or ship's bow and is an extension of the keel itself. It is often found on wooden boats or ships, but not exclusively.
