Cloutierville, Louisiana
Cloutierville is an unincorporated community in Natchitoches Parish, Louisiana, United States. It lies approximately south of the city of Natchitoches on the Cane River. The community is part of the Natchitoches Micropolitan Statistical Area, off exit 119 of Interstate 49. This is a homeland of many multiracial Louisiana Creole people. It is in the NPS Cane River National Heritage Area. History The town was built on the plantation of Alexis Cloutier and incorporated in 1822. The plantation house was later owned by Kate Chopin. Chopin's former home was open to the public as the Bayou Folk Museum, before its destruction by fire in 2008. The historic wooden St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and its cemetery are located in Cloutierville. Education The community is served by Natchitoches Parish School Board. Webster Parish ( French: ''Paroisse de Webster'') is a parish located in the northwestern section of the U.S. state of Louisiana. The seat of the parish is Minden. As of the 2010 census, the Webster Parish population was 41,207. In 2018, the population estimate was 38,798. Public officials who have long sought to increase the industrial potential of the parish, expressed concern over the decline. Jim Bonsall, the president of the Webster Parish Police Jury, the parish governing body, cited the ending of the Haynesville Shale boom as the primary reason for the population losses. The parish has long depended on jobs in the petroleum and natural gas fields. The parish is named for 19th-century American statesman Daniel Webster of Massachusetts and New Hampshire. Jean McGlothlin Doerge (born June 4, 1937; pronounced DURR-ghee) is director of the Germantown Colony and Museum in Webster Parish, Louisiana and a former Democratic member of the Louisiana House of Representatives who represented District 10 (Webster Parish, Minden) from 1998 to 2012. From 2001 to 2006, she served as the vice chair of the House's Commerce Committee; in 2007, she was appointed to the Louisiana House Appropriations Committee, and from 2008 to 2012, she served as the vice chair of the Retirement Committee. Sylvan Friedman (May 19, 1908 – March 18, 1979) was an American politician. He served as a Democratic member of the Louisiana House of Representatives. Foshee also served as a member of the Louisiana State Senate. Born in Natchitoches Parish, Louisiana. Friedman was the nephew of J. Isaac Friedman and Leon Friedman.
