Naturism
Naturism is a lifestyle of practising non-sexual social nudity in private and in public; the word also refers to the cultural movement which advocates and defends that lifestyle. Both may alternatively be called nudism. Though the two terms are broadly interchangeable, ''nudism'' emphasizes the practice of nudity, whereas ''naturism'' highlights an attitude favoring harmony with nature and respect for the environment, into which that practice is integrated. That said, naturists come from a range of philosophical and cultural backgrounds; there is no single naturist ideology. Ethical or philosophical nudism has a long history, with many advocates of the benefits of enjoying nature without clothing. Deutscher Verband Für Freikörperkultur
The Deutscher Verband für Freikörperkultur (DFK; German Association for Free Body Culture) represents the interests of organized supporters of the Freikörperkultur (free body culture) in Germany. The DFK is a member of the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB) as an association with special tasks for popular sports in nude recreation. In addition, the DFK represents its members at the international level in the International Naturist Federation (INF), which also sees itself as representing the interests of non-organized naturists. History The DFK was founded in Kassel on 6 November 1949 as the umbrella organization for the then three allied occupied zones in Germany (British, French and American). Free The Nipple
Free the Nipple is a topfreedom campaign created in 2012 during pre-production of a 2014 Free the Nipple (film), film of the same name. The campaign highlights the general convention of allowing men to appear topless in public while considering it sexual or indecent for women to do the same, and asserts that this difference is an unjust women's rights, treatment of women. The campaign argues that it should be legally and culturally acceptable for women to bare their nipples in public. History In 2012, filmmaker Lina Esco started this campaign in New York City. She created a documentary of herself running through the streets of New York topless. As the documentary was being made, she posted teaser clips with the hashtag #FreeTheNipple. In 2013, Facebook removed these clips from its website for violating its guidelines. Go Topless Day
Go Topless Day (variously known as National Go Topless Day, International Go Topless Day) is an annual event held in the United States to support the right of women to go topless in public on gender-equality grounds. In states where women have that right topfreedom laws are celebrated, and protests are held in states where topless women are prohibited. Organizer The annual event was started in 2007 by Go Topless, a Nevada group formed by Claude Vorilhon, leader of the Raelian Movement, a UFO religion. GoTopless has supported events and chapters in other countries. History Go Topless Day was founded in response to the arrest of Phoenix Feeley (Jill Coccaro), a topless activist who was arrested for being topless in public in New York in 2005. The city of New York settled with Feeley for $29,000 because toplessness is legal there. Outdoor Co-ed Topless Pulp Fiction Appreciation Society
The Outdoor Co-ed Topless Pulp Fiction Appreciation Society was a group of several dozen women and a few men that had, since August 17, 2011, organized regular gatherings around New York City, meeting to read and discuss books in public while topless. The primary objective of the group, besides enjoying the sun and book reading, was to create awareness that New York law allows toplessness in public and to change social attitudes to the exposure of women's breasts. The group's blog had reported that there had been no harassment of the participants by the police and very rarely by the public. Around March 2021, the group deleted their web site, Facebook, and Twitter accounts. The group's current status is unknown. Toplessness refers to the state in which a woman's breasts, including her areolas and nipples, are exposed, especially in a public place or in a visual medium. The male equivalent is barechestedness, also commonly called shirtlessness. Exposed breasts were and are normal in many indigenous societies. However, western countries have social norms around female modesty, often enforced by legal statutes, that require women to cover their breasts in public.
