Clonlara GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association hurling club based in Clonlara, County Clare, Ireland. It is affiliated with Clare county board. Gaelic Athletic Association
The Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA; ga, Cumann Lúthchleas Gael ; CLG) is an Irish international amateur sporting and cultural organisation, focused primarily on promoting indigenous Gaelic games and pastimes, which include the traditional Irish sports of hurling, camogie, Gaelic football, Gaelic handball and rounders. Clare Junior Hurling Championship
Clare Junior Hurling Championship is the third-tier hurling competition organized by the Clare County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association. The competition is confined to clubs organised by Clare GAA. The winners usually will play in the intermediate grade the following year for the Clare Intermediate Hurling Championship. They will also represent Clare GAA in the Munster Junior Club Hurling Championship. The 2022 Junior Champions are St Joseph's Doora-Barefield GAA, St. Joseph's, Doora-Barefield who defeated their near-neighbours Éire Óg, Inis GAA, Éire Óg, Ennis by a single point to be crowned champions for the fifth time at this grade. Hurling Clubs In County Clare
Hurling ( ga, iománaíocht, ') is an outdoor team game of ancient Gaelic Irish origin, played by men. One of Ireland's native Gaelic games, it shares a number of features with Gaelic football, such as the field and goals, the number of players and much terminology. The same game played by women is called camogie ('), which shares a common Gaelic root. The objective of the game is for players to use an ash wood stick called a hurley (in Irish a ', pronounced or ) to hit a small ball called a ' between the opponent's goalposts either over the crossbar for one point or under the crossbar into a net guarded by a goalkeeper for three points. Nicky O'Connell
Nicholas Michael "Nicky" O'Connell (born 15 September 1989) is an Irish hurler who played as a midfielder for the Clare senior team. Born in Clonlara, County Clare, O'Connell first played competitive hurling during his schooling at Ardscoil Rís, Limerick. He arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of seventeen when he first linked up with the Clare minor team before later joining the under-21 side. He made his senior debut during the 2010 championship. Over the next few seasons O'Connell became a regular member of the starting fifteen and won one All-Ireland medal. At club level O'Connell is a one-time championship medallist with Clonlara. Throughout his career O'Connell made 22 championship appearances. He left the Clare panel in March 2015 but returned again in April 2015. John Conlon
John Conlon (born 23 January 1989) is an Irish hurler who plays for Clare Senior Championship club Clonlara and is the captain of the Clare senior hurling team. He usually lines out as a full-forward. Playing career St. Flannan's College Conlon played in all grades of hurling with St. Flannan's College in Ennis before progressing onto the college's senior team. On 12 March 2006, he was introduced as a substitute when St. Flannan's College suffered a 2-08 to 0-12 defeat by Midleton CBS Secondary School in the Harty Cup final. On 1 May 2006, Conlon broke onto the starting fifteen when he was selected at full-forward for the All-Ireland final against Dublin Colleges. He scored a point from play in the 1-11 to 0-11 defeat. On 11 March 2007, Conlon lined out at full-forward when St. Flannan's College faced De La Salle College from Waterford in the Harty Cup final. Colm Galvin
Colm Galvin (born 2 February 1993) is an Irish hurler who previously played as a midfielder for the Clare senior team. Galvin joined the team during the 2012 championship and immediately became a regular member of the starting fifteen. A Munster medalist in the minor grade and a Munster and All-Ireland medalist in the under-21 grade. At club level Galvin plays with Clonlara. Galvin missed the start of the 2015 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship as he was spending the summer in Boston. He returned from Boston at the end of June and rejoined the Clare hurling panel. Galvin attended NUI Galway. In February 2022, Galvin announced his retirement from inter-county hurling. Domhnall O'Donovan
Domhnall O'Donovan (born 29 April 1988) is an Irish hurler who plays as a right corner-back for the Clare senior team. Born in Clonlara, County Clare, O'Donovan first played competitive hurling whilst at school in St. Munchin's College. He arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of twenty-one when he first linked up with the Clare under-21 team. He made his senior debut in the 2010 Waterford Crystal Cup. O'Donovan has since gone on to play a key role in defence for Clare. At club level O'Donovan has won one championship medal with Clonlara. O'Donovan played a key part in the drawn 2013 All Ireland Senior Hurling Final on 8 September against Cork. Despite leading for the whole game Clare found themselves a point down after 72 minutes. Darach Honan
Darach Honan (born 21 March 1990 in Clonlara, County Clare, Ireland) is an Irish sportsperson. He plays hurling with his local club Clonlara and was a member of the Clare senior inter-county team from 2010 until 2017. Early life Born in Clonlara, County Clare, Honan is the son of Colm Honan, a former Clare hurler, and Máire Ní Ghráda, an academic and native of Cork. Honan was educated at the local national school before attending Ard Scoil Rís in Limerick. Here he concentrated on basketball and enjoyed much success at All-Ireland level with the school. Honan subsequently studied at University College Cork. Playing career Club Honan plays his club hurling with Clonlara and has enjoyed much success. Colm Honan
Colm Honan (born 1954) is an Irish former hurler who played as a midfielder for the Clare senior team. Honan joined the team during the 1974 championship and became a regular player until his retirement at the end of the 1984 championship. During that time he won back-to-back National Hurling League winners' medals and an All-Star award. His son, Darach Honan Darach Honan (born 21 March 1990 in Clonlara, County Clare, Ireland) is an Irish sportsperson. Clare Intermediate Hurling Championship
The Clare Intermediate Hurling Championship is an annual hurling competition organised by the Clare GAA, Clare County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association for the second tier hurling teams in the county of County Clare, Clare in Ireland. The series of games are played during the summer and autumn months with the county final currently being played at Cusack Park (Ennis), Cusack Park. The championship includes a group stage which is followed by a knock-out phase for the top teams. There is also promotion involving the Clare Senior Hurling Championship and relegation involving the Clare Junior Hurling Championship. In 2012 it was decided that from 2014 onwards the Clare Senior Hurling Championship would become a single sixteen team championship. Clonlara
Clonlara, officially Cloonlara (), is a village in County Clare, Ireland, and a Roman Catholic parish of the same name. Village and parish Clonlara is in the east of County Clare in the civil parish of Kiltonanlea or Doonass, barony of Tulla Lower. It lies between the River Shannon to the east and the Clare hills to the west and north. Clonlara village is on the road between Killaloe and Limerick. In 1841 there were 219 people in 31 houses. The village lies beside the head-race canal that deliver water to power the Ardnacrusha power plant a few kilometres to the southwest. Clonlara has a GAA club and an equestrian centre. The village is part of Clonlara (Doonas and Truagh) parish of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Killaloe, and the Church of Ireland parish of Kiltenanlea.
