Clodualdo Del Mundo Jr.
Clodualdo A. del Mundo Jr. (born March 11, 1948) is a Filipino screenwriter, director, and author. In 1968, he got a Bachelor of Arts degree at the Ateneo de Manila University in 1968 followed by a Master of Arts in radio-television-film in 1974 from University of Kansas and a doctoral degree in communication studies at the University of Iowa in 1994. He headed the communication arts department of De La Salle University from 1976 to 1985 and was a founding member and former chairman of the Manunuri ng Pelikulang Pilipino, and vice-president of the Screenwriters Guild of the Philippines. Del Mundo is a well-respected figure in the Filipino film industry and has garnered amount of critical acclaim for his body of work during the 1970s and 1980s. The Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences Awards (also known as the FAMAS Awards) are the annual honors given by the Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences (FAMAS), an organization composed of award-winning writers and movie columnists, for achievements in Philippine cinema for a calendar year. The Gawad Urian Awards are annual film awards in the Philippines held since 1977. It is given by the Manunuri ng Pelikulang Pilipino (MPP, "the Filipino Film Critics") and is currently regarded as the counterpart of the United States' New York Film Critics Circle. Establishment The MPP was formed by a host of scholars, film writers and other award-winning writers on May 1, 1976 as a critics' voice to rival the then-only award-giving body in the Philippines, which is its Oscars', the FAMAS Awards. Three years earlier, what would be the members of the MPP were included in the judges' roster of the FAMAS after a shocking 1972 Best Actress tie materialized between major star Boots Anson-Roa and then-rising star Vilma Santos. Established in 1981, the Film Academy of the Philippines (FAP) is the Philippines' official counterpart of the United States' Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. The FAP was founded through Executive Order 640-A issued by the President of the Philippines.
