Clinton is a city in Custer County, Oklahoma, Custer and Washita County, Oklahoma, Washita counties in the U.S. state of Oklahoma. The population was 9,033 at the United States Census, 2010, 2010 census. History The community began in 1899 when two men, J.L. Avant and E.E. Blake, decided to locate a town in the Washita River Valley. Because of governmental stipulations that an Indian could sell no more than one half of a allotment, the men made plans to purchase from four different Indians (Hays, Shoe-Boy, Nowahy, and Night Killer) and paid them each $2,000 for to begin the small settlement of Washita Junction. Roy Bell (Canadian Football)
Roy Bell (born 29 July 1949) is a former running back in the Canadian Football League for the Edmonton Eskimos. He played college football at the University of Oklahoma. Early years Belle attended Clinton High School, where he played as a running back. In 1965, along with his brother Carlos, he helped the school win its first football state championship. In 1967, he was a part of an undefeated team that won the football state championship and that one national publication called the best high school team in the country that season. He finished with more than 6,000 rushing yards, leading the state in his last 2 years in rusing and scoring. He only lost one game during his three-year varsity career (13-19 against Wewoka in the 1966 state finals). College career Bell accepted a football scholarship from the University of Oklahoma. Cal Browning
Calvin Duane Browning (March 16, 1938 – September 14, 2022) was an American professional baseball pitcher. He played for the St. Louis Cardinals of Major League Baseball (MLB), appearing in one game during the 1960 season. Early life and career Browning was born in Burns Flat, Oklahoma, on March 16, 1938. His family moved to Clinton, Oklahoma, when he was in the eighth grade. He graduated from Clinton High School in 1956. He played baseball and football at Clinton. For the baseball team, he was an all-state pitcher. In football, he was an all-state fullback, but also played quarterback. Bud Wilkinson recruited Browning to play college football for the Oklahoma Sooners at the University of Oklahoma.
