Clifford The Big Red Dog (1988 Series)
''Clifford the Big Red Dog'' is an animated educational children's television series, based upon Norman Bridwell's children's book series of the same name. Produced by Scholastic Productions, it originally aired on PBS Kids from September 4, 2000, to February 25, 2003. A UK version (dubbed with British voice actors replacing the original American soundtrack) originally aired on BBC Two in April 2002. Internationally, German-based TV-Loonland AG handled broadcast rights to the series, while Entertainment Rights held merchandising and home media rights. John Ritter voices Clifford in every episode. By the time the series ended production and the subsequent film ''Clifford's Really Big Movie'' were completed, Ritter was back on ABC's prime time schedule, starring in ''8 Simple Rules''. Norman Bridwell
Norman Ray Bridwell (February 15, 1928 – December 12, 2014) was an American author and cartoonist best known for the ''Clifford the Big Red Dog'' book series. Early life Bridwell was born on February 15, 1928, in Kokomo, Indiana, to Leona and Vern Bridwell. He graduated from Kokomo High School in 1945, and went on to attend John Herron School of Art at Indiana University – Purdue University Indianapolis, and Cooper Union, in New York City. Clifford serves as the official mascot of Scholastic Corporation. Career Bridwell put together a portfolio and attempted to get a job as a children's book illustrator but was rejected by approximately fifteen publishing houses. While at Harper (publisher), Harper & Row, an editor offhandedly suggested he turn one of his drawings into a story. The drawing was of a young girl and a horse-sized bloodhound, and the story became ''Clifford the Big Red Dog''. ''Clifford the Big Red Dog'' is an animated children's television series which is a reboot to the book series of the same name written by Norman Bridwell, and the 2000 original series created by Deborah Forte and produced by Mike Young Productions, and is the third series in the franchise after the prequel spin-off ''Clifford's Puppy Days,'' which was also produced by Mike Young Productions. In addition to being a reboot, it is also a sequel, because PBS lists it as being the third season. Clifford is voiced by Adam Sanders, replacing John Ritter in the role since the latter's death in 2003. It was released on December 6, 2019, on Amazon Prime Video, and premiered a day later on PBS Kids. Unlike the original TV series, the reboot has not yet aired in the UK, and it is unknown whether or not it will be dubbed for the British audiences if it ever premieres in the UK. ''Clifford's Puppy Days'' is an animated children's television series that originally aired on PBS Kids from September 1, 2003 to February 25, 2006. The prequel to the 2000–2003 series ''Clifford the Big Red Dog'', it features the adventures of Clifford during his puppy days before he became a big red dog and before moving to Birdwell Island. The series ended in February 2006 after two seasons and 39 episodes. Since then, occasional reruns continue to air, typically on holidays such as Halloween and Christmas. In the United Kingdom, the series aired on CBeebies until early 2011 and like the original series, the prequel was dubbed with British voice actors, replacing the original American soundtrack.
