Cliff Waldron
Clifford Waldron (born April 4, 1941) is a retired American bluegrass musician. Waldron is best known for his collaborations with bluegrass musician Bill Emerson, with the two forming the bluegrass duo ''Emerson & Waldron,'' as well as the formation of his own band, ''Cliff Waldron and the New Shades Of Grass''. Early life Waldron was born April 4, 1941, in Jolo, West Virginia, a small rural community in McDowell County. He grew up listening to Bill Monroe, Flatt & Scruggs, and the Stanley Brothers. As a teenager, he played mandolin and guitar and later performed in local bands. Career Waldron played mandolin for the Page Valley Boys for a short time. Waldron relocated to the Washington, D.C. area in the early 1960s and went on to perform with regional pickers. Waldron soon formed a relationship with bluegrass musician Bill Emerson and began performing with him, forming the duo ''Emerson & Waldron''. Jolo, West Virginia
Jolo (pronounced "Joe-Lowe") is an unincorporated community on West Virginia Route 83 in McDowell County in the U.S. state of West Virginia. The community was mentioned in the book '' Salvation on Sand Mountain'' by Dennis Covington for being the home of the Church of the Lord Jesus with Signs Following, a renowned snake handling church. Services at the church have been filmed and widely shown on television. The name, according to a grandson of the postmaster, derives from the name of the son of the first postmaster, John Crockett Lowe. Crockett was the postmaster of a substation of the Bradshaw Post Office two miles from Jolo. Because the mail went first to Bradshaw, it frequently got mixed up. To prevent this mixup the US Post Office decided the substation needed to have its own name. The USPO then asked Crockett to recommend names. Amissville ( ) is an unincorporated community in Rappahannock County in the U.S. commonwealth of Virginia. It is located on U.S. Route 211 about halfway between Warrenton and the small town of Washington, Virginia. The Locust Grove/R.E. Luttrell Farmstead and Meadow Grove Farm are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. History The land on which the village of Amissville is now situated was part of the 5.3 million acre Northern Neck Proprietary owned in the 1700s by Thomas Fairfax, 6th Lord Fairfax of Cameron. In 1649 King Charles II of England, then in exile in France after the execution of his father, Charles I, had given this unmapped and unsettled region to seven loyal supporters. Joe South
Joe South (born Joseph Alfred Souter; February 28, 1940 – September 5, 2012) was an American singer-songwriter, guitarist, and record producer. Best known for his songwriting, South won the Grammy Award for Song of the Year in 1970 for " Games People Play" and was again nominated for the award in 1972 for "Rose Garden". Career South had met and was encouraged by Bill Lowery, an Atlanta music publisher and radio personality. He began his recording career in Atlanta with the National Recording Corporation, where he served as staff guitarist along with other NRC artists Ray Stevens and Jerry Reed. South's earliest recordings have been re-released by NRC on CD. He soon returned to Nashville with The Manrando Group and then on to Charlie Wayne Felts Promotions. "Early Morning Rain," sometimes styled as "Early Mornin' Rain," is a song written, composed, and recorded by Canadian singer-songwriter Gordon Lightfoot. The song appears on his 1966 debut album '' Lightfoot!'' and, in a re-recorded version, on the 1975 compilation '' Gord's Gold.'' Background Lightfoot wrote and composed the song in 1964, but its genesis took root during his 1960 sojourn in Westlake, Los Angeles.
